Can I only send pictures through email and blackberry messenger? Is there anyway I can send a picture message to someone that doesn't have a BB?

Not sure if Alltel locks it down, but on my Verizon I can send via mms.
If they do then your only options are e-mail and messenger.

Or tell your friends to get BlackBerrys!

Yes MMS is for pictures, sounds, ect.... Stuff media related that can be sent.

Unfortunately MMS not enabled with Alltel.

How do I find out if I can do that on my phone? When I go to the messages and press the BB menu, it doesn't show 'compose mms message' -- Does this mean it's not allowed on my phone?

It is carrier dependent. You phone can but Alltel won't let you. Sprint is the same way.

Just like I can't use true GPS on my BB. It's there, but Verizon wants us to pay for Vznavigator so the lock down our ability to use the gps function.

u can send pics through the BB messenger unless thats locked down as well. Ive done it on my verizon 8130

Since you don't have mms per say, not directly. You will get a message, but there will be a link to a site to view this. This is how it works with Verizon. My buddy has an 8830, no camera, so he can't do mms. And when I sent him one it gives him the link.
They can email you the picture.
