Every other day or so all my text messages and call logs will be deleted. I have it set to only delete every thirty days and yet it stil does it. Am I over looking something?

Im on verizon by they way. So I dont know if its me or the phone. Or if other verizon users are having the same problem.

You may have run low on memory. A period hard reboot (remove/reinsert battery) is a good way to free up memory.

Am I the only one who thinks that low memory has nothing to do with your messages being deleted?

probably 90% of those with messages deleted just got their phone! The problem is with the software our carriers provide, not with the phone or memory.

Suggestions on clearing memory, deleting programs, etc do not work, the problem is with our software. Period.

You should not have to delete the themes/backrounds/ringtones that came installed to get a high reserve of memory.. That's BS and you know, if you have tons of programs, that makes sense for you. If you haven't installed many programs and have at least 10mb free memory, then your emails should not be deleting themselves as a result of memory.

The problem lies in our software. Not your free memory, except in very extreme conditions.

Yes, you're the only one. The reason is most definitely low memory. The cause of the low memory is more the issue. The more available memory the longer it will be before your memory gets to a level where things will be automatically deleted.

It's usually due to an application not managing memory properly. RIM has identified the application switcher as one culprit. I believe that BBMessenger is another one. However, many people here get down to 0 memory and these are the fixes for it and they do work.

The more free memory the zippier your device will be. That's why I wrote what I did in that post.

Well i called my carrier for the device, and what they told me about that is that they found a glitch in the memory for the 8130, and that is why it wont keep your messages.. he recommended to delete some things out of the phone that aren't used, and that u delete the browsing history quite frequently, and to do a hard reboot on it every couple of days..

But you really think that messages and call logs take up 10mb? There's no way unless perhaps attachments. Maybe the browser's cache? but even that I believe you can set a limit...

I believe it has been proved that it is a memory leak not associated with a lack of free memory. From personal experience, I have had 20mb free, and lost my emails and logs.. That is why it's hard to convince me!

Some people suggest that carrier udates will fix the problem, and so along with them I can only speculate.

Here is a new wrinkle to the arbitrary deleted files problem...
    NOT memory BUT battery!!!
RIM is working on a cure...
Anytime that your battery drops below 50% charge the OS can delete files without rhyme or reason!
Until RIM can provide update OS you MUST keep your battery charge up there. Use options, status to monitor.

Not sure you know this and if you do then my apologies, and I don't want to take sides here, but if you go to Options, Status, click menu click Database Sizes, you can see what is using what in the way of data. Mine is only using 718k so like you said.....You do the math

Mine just started deleting texts and call logs but not e mails....I'll look at my total me being used and try to clear some things up and see if it helps. I do have a ton of stuff on my 8830 and just reloaded by software with all carrier themes unlocked, so I can see mem being a problem for me.

I'm having the same problems with my messages and calls being deleted. At first I thought it was my phone provider, but I talked to them and they said that its the software. I was told by them that Blackberry should be updating their software within then next few weeks. I tried the taking out the battery part, and it helps.

I had similar problems, my free memory always more than 25MB and I exchange battery every 3 days which means hard reset and do not have any 3rd party app install. My messages suddenly deleted twice not only in my device but also in my email accounts (yahoo and Cox) I called AT&T tech support after 45 minutes they gave up then transfered to BB tech, after 15 minutes they transfered to specialist I was told, then I waited for 45 minutes without answer, I was tired waiting then hangup. I called AT&T to canceled BIS. I do not let BB get my money and let me wait on phone 45 minutes, therefore I do not know what is the outcome of result sorry guys!!!.Now I am not worry about messages deleted, I kind of agree with Wegmans because all the tips that I have done as routine obviously. Good luck.
John, I admired you are the one of the best support to help out in this forum, all your supports always greatly appreciated.

I have a co-worker with a 8130 for Sprint, and his BB has been doing the same thing. I posted on this string last night as my 8830 had the same issue as well.
When I looked at his 8130 today, he had about 30 pics saved to the phone memory, instead of his memory card. I moved all his pics to his storage card, and his device has been working just fine for the whole day. I'll keep you updated as the week goes on. After I deleted 3 of the 5 games I had downloaded and cleared my browser cache, my 8830 has been awesome. I would have to say that it's without a doubt a memory problem, and that the software that the carriers are talking about releasing may be for better memory management. Until then, don't let your BB become a storage closet for old junk you don't need.

It must be something in the water. I just started losing emails, SMS, and logs. I thought I was gong crazy. Added some mem and we will see what happens. If it is a mem issue, my vote is a very bad mem leak. My Curve is 1 month old and is basically stock, nothing unusually different in the last week, but poof everything started jumping ship like rats. I'll check back in a day or so.

I just got my 8130 from verizon 2 days ago and immediately noticed the problem. Every day since my call logs and whatnot were empty. Now after reading everything you guys have said, i would agree there is definately a problem. However, i dont think it is just because people have too much stuff on their phone. I literally only have added 50 contacts 3 pics and 2 songs, which the pics and songs are saved to my memory stick. I have deleted a bunch of the preinstalled programs and have PLENTY of space. I was informed by Verizon that it is a memory leak and that blackberry is aware of the problem and are looking into a software update. If anyone hears anymore regarding this, let me know!

Does the memory card come into play when you check your "free memory" through the options menu, or does it only reflect device memory? I am only showing about 10.4 MB free... and that's keeping my Berry pretty bone-dry. I keep all of my media on my 2GB memory card, and the only applications I have are TeleNav and OperaMini.

Another thing, it also says my file total is almost 55 MB. Does that sound right to anyone? I've hardly added anything to my phone... maybe about 10 ringtones, about 10 pictures, and 1 theme so far. My call log and messages were deleted yesterday, so there's no issue there (I'm assuming due to the low memory issue).

I have the 8120 on 02 in the UK. I had the same problem (also had it with the original pearl handset) at least once a week it deleted most of my messages and all my call logs.
For the last 2 months I have removed the battery every 3 days, and I have not lost a single message.
