What determines when the keyboard lights up? It seems to me like it comes on at arbitrary times. I would just like it to light up when I push a button. I have auto dim off, and my screen brightness set to 50.

I am also having problems with this and wondered if anyone knows whether the keyboard should light up automatically when it is touched or whether there is a fault on my BB as it only seems to light up when it likes. I also have auto dim off and backlight brightness at 100. I have also taken battery out for a reboot several times but not making any difference!
    Please help, many thanks

The keyboard backlight is fully controlled by the light sensor and is not user changeable.

Nope, not a fault... normal behavior.

I actually like the light sensor.

Carry from lighted room into a dark place, it lights up right in my hand. Not touching anything at all. It's all good......

Agreed, I'm very pleased with the seamless operation of the keypad backlight.. better than any regular phone I've owned.

I have been playing around with the light sensor on the 8130 and have been rather pleased. Sometimes it seems to take a second or two to engage the bright screen but nothing worth writing home about.

Isn't it the opposite? Mine lights up when it's in the light (outside) and dims when I am in darker places? Defect?

We're speaking of the keyboard backlight, not the display brightness. Normal behavior for the display is as you describe.

Doesn't your keypad get brighter and darker?

Don't believe so.. at least not that I've really noticed. Yes the keypad does not "appear" as brightly lit in low light conditions vs. total darkeness, but I thought just an optical effect due to the higher level of ambient light causing the keypad backlight to be less noticeable rather than the backlight actually varying in brightness intensity. I'll take a closer look later.

So since we're kinda talking about the light sensor... where exactly is the sensor on the phone. I'd be fun to mess with it... i'm just curious where it is.
