For some reason I can't delete some of the messages on my phone. This just happened in the last few weeks. Can anyone help an old lady?

Are you on BES or BIS? Have you recently restored a backup? If you are a BES user, and the BES Message Folder is out of sync with the Folder on your BlackBerry, you can get messages stuck.
