The unlocking process is really not that hard. Just go to the .alx file or whatever, and then once you don't delete what you need to, just plug your BB in amd sync it. Incredibly easy. Why do you want the Verizon theme anyway? I hate it!

Almost good information.. Not sure why it is called unlocking, but anyway...
Locate "BlackBerry.ALX" on your C: drive. You MUST have downloaded and installed the Handheld OS for the 8830 onto your PC. The file will be located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8830-??????
Make a backup of BlackBerry.ALX
Find the lines with the phrase "vendorID" at the end of them.
Remove the vendorID - this will load ALL of the themes.
Save the file.
Connect your BB.
Restart Desktop Manager and Application loader.
Presto - "unlocked". Or simple loaded; I don't know.
I did the unlock as described. My 8130 entered the App error 523 mode. Nothing could alter that. I returned it to the provider and they gave me a new Pearl I won't go through that again.
Yeah, I returned it for a 523. Hey, I'm nothing but a layman. I don't do tech. The Pearl would do nothing but display that error, so the Pearl was done. Tech support at Telus had no idea, and frankly, I find trying to resolve something like this on any forum is futile because threads don't resolve themselves. Somebody fixes his/her device and posts something like "it's fixed, thanks". I sit here and wonder "great. what did you do to fix it." I won't go through that again, for the sake of themes. There must be a better way.
I have to add, I did it with my 8703e and it went flawlessly. I keep shaking the thing to see of it'll start giving the error.
I have the newest OS from Sprint. My DM wants to upgrade the Pearl with it. I have changed all the vendor ID's to my vendor ID. I'm just nervous about doing it. The last time I did it, I had to dump the 8130. The other problem I have is that using the "Add" button at the top of DM renders the error about no applications for your device, or something like that. Something else that's been talked about here without any resolution.
This really os not that hard of a process! Do a search in the forums for "Unlocking All Vendor Themes". Follow the directions. It really is not as hard as you think it is!!

You don't even have to search. I gave the detailed instructions in post #8 of this thread....
If you read my posts, you'll see that I know how to do it. I've in fact done it many times. That is not what I'm going on about. I'm nervous about the app error 523. I have not indicated that I don't know how to load unlocked themes. I know how to do that. I said in an earlier post that I have done it successfully on an 8703e. I also have done it unsuccessfully on an 8130. That is where I get the app error 523.

You need to follow this process instead, as you won't get the error. It's extremely simple and allows you to pick multiple vendor themes that you can add and delete at will:
Okay, there's nothing to be afraid of here. Just make a backup of the file before you edit it. If things don't work out, you just replace the file with the backup.
It works on the pearl 8130. I know, I've done it. And there are very few things that you WON'T get answers to or directions for on this forum.
