An SD card is only good for adding media and will NOT allow me to install programs/software onto it?

Correct a SD is the same as a USB drive. You cannot install programs on it only data/media.

No it won't allow you to install to the card, but you can use the card to install programs..

An example would be a Java program that is too large to be installed OTA...

Card is just for storage basically. I know for my WM5 phone i could run programs off the card, but you are never given that option with BB installations..

So yes you are correct.
