Angel - I will try and help as much as I can.

First question - what does the display show at the top right corner of the screen, i.e. which one of the following: GSM/gprs/edge/GPRS/EDGE.

    Do the service books arrive?
Can other people send you pin 2 pin messages (or does BB Messenger work)?
Assuming the answer to these is yes....

Log into your BIS account and add a generic "blackberry" email account. Can that send/receive email?

If the answer to this is yes, then it is an issue with the integration between BIS and your email account. What is the account type - POP3/IMAP/OWA?

The answer to all is "yes" and my account is on Gmail...

Ok, so it seems the device is communicating fine with BIS, the issue is with BIS <=> Gmail?

Can you create another gmail account and verify that a different account works?

    Hmmmm.
Have you tried doing a full backup of the device with Desktop Manager, wiping it and then resending the service books?

If that doesnt work, call your service provider and get them to delete the BIS account, then set it up again from scratch.

Yesterday, I updated my device to OS 4.5.0.174, wiped it and didn't use a backup, just set up it all from scratch. Now, everything seems to work smoothly. I can send and receive e-mails normally and I love my berry again.
Thank you VERY much for you time and your help.

Glad to hear you got it all sorted out @ngel, though it's a shame we cant identify the root cause. Clearly something on the device was the issue though.
