Crackberry I'm in it!
- First I want to say Hello to everyone! This is my first post! *Enter shy giggle here*
I have a wonderful Pink 8130 Pearl that I loved so dearly until I went and changed a setting on the phone. Ugh!
The Left Convenience key by default is the Voice Dialing Key. Well, every time I picked up my blackberry I would hit that damn button and be forced to listen to "Say a command"! I finally got tired of it yesterday and changed the Left Convenience key to open my messages! What a wonderful thing I thought! Until me phone threw a fit and now doesn't want to work!
Now I continually get the hourglass all day long on my screen. I barely get my text messages and NONE of my emails! You all should know that once you experience the convenience of getting every email at your fingertips, you tend to check your phone 5 million times just in case you didn't see the blinking red light!
I tried to change the Left Convenience Key back to it's annoying default... and then pressed it to try it out.... all i got was "Initializing: please wait" for HOURS!!!
UGH!!! I just want my phone to go back to working silky smooth! Can anyone help me out?! I don't want to have to resort to going to Verizon's Customer Service Counter! *Dun dun duuuunnnn*10-22-08 09:00 AMLike 0 - Welcome to CB.. That happen to me and the hourglass wouldnt go away...i backed up my bb and then proceed to wipe handheld and restore...
For the left and right convenience.. i have my address book and key lock.
10-22-08 09:03 AMLike 0 - I also had a problem installing the program on my computer!
My key lock is the top button... I have my camera set for the right key. That left one has to be the problem child!10-22-08 09:08 AMLike 0 - First welcome to CB! Now before you go wiping your device let's check something a little less drastic. The Pearl has a limited amount of on board memory and tends to act a little screwy when low. I want you to go to options>status and tell me the number at file free.10-22-08 09:17 AMLike 0

I haven't had your problem, but sorry to hear it.
I use the left convenience key for the lock, worst case scenario, I lock the device... My right key is the camera too.
Loved your "Dun dun duuuuun" in the first post... lol
Hmm, just thought of this. Do you have 'push to talk' on your phone? Could it have been trying to initialize that. I know some phones come with it and that is what it says sometimes if it was pushed.

I just checked my "little patient" and it says that the File Free amount is: 13291883 Bytes.
Do you think I should remove some of the image files on the phone? I can move a bunch to the memory card.
It seems to use up it's battery power real fast now that it hour glasses endlessly. And to make matters worse... my little buddy here also suffered a nasty fall yesterday, due to it's overly jealous furry friend (my cat). Battery fell out!Last edited by rstrickland21; 10-22-08 at 01:49 PM. Reason: adding information

- Begin performing Blackberry CPR, 1, 2 ,3.... lol
Try a battery pull, this should temporarily fix the problem. Then move all of your images and videos to your memory card and delete any applications that you don't need. Changing the setting probably just coincidentally caused your phone to start acting like this, there probably isn't a problem with the left key, changing the setting just triggered the problem but the problem itself doesn't lie in the button setting.10-22-08 04:14 PMLike 0 - Begin performing Blackberry CPR, 1, 2 ,3.... lol

I've also started the image move. I will be clearing out my pics and putting them on my computer when I get home from work in a few hours.10-22-08 04:24 PMLike 0 - I FINALLY cleared off all of my pictures and videos that I didn't need on my Pearl. Originally when I checked to see how much my phone said it was file free it told me 13291883 Bytes. Now it tells me that it is 14137732 Bytes file free. I am hoping that helps my Pearl out!
Not getting any of my emails and having the battery die in a few hours really sucks!10-25-08 12:03 AMLike 0 -

http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...-memory-34633/10-25-08 12:11 AMLike 0 - sent a couple of test emails to myself.... and i haven't received any of them on my blackberry! UGH!!!!! And that darn hourglass keeps making it's appearance! Which means my phone will die some time while I am sleeping. It can go through a whole battery in about 2-3 hours!
I think I might have to take a trip to the Verizon Customer Service Desk! If I get there at 9am it should be my turn by around 3 in the afternoon. What an awesome way to spend my Saturday!10-25-08 12:23 AMLike 0 -
I do have a memory card! I just forgot to make it so that everything went to it. hehehe
regardless I took all of the images/videos off of my phone. freed up some file free memory... and it's still no working very well!10-25-08 12:26 AMLike 0 - I haven't uploaded any new apps though. I went through and deleted everything that I didn't want on there. I got rid of my cache, and removed all of my images/videos. Followed all of the links you posted for me. But my Pearl still acts up!
The only thing I did was change the left convenience key from the default "voice dialing" to go to my emails. Ever since I did that it stopped working. When I tried to set it back to the every annoying voice dailing it freezes up on the initializing screen.
It is still constantly showing the hourglass... which is slowing my phone down big time. I am also having a hard time keeping my battery power since it's constantly doing something.Last edited by rstrickland21; 10-26-08 at 05:03 PM. Reason: adding info.
10-25-08 09:05 PMLike 0 - Another little tidbit of information about the malfunctioning Pearl.... Today I went to call my Mom... it automatically went to speakerphone and gave me some kind of call error. I was able to complete the call though. Just had the error screen up the whole time.
I have come to the conclusion that the operating system on my dear Pearl has sadly decided to vacate the premises.
so... with that said... how do I go about fixing this problem? I just backed up my blackberry.... that means I will have all of my phone numbers and information available still correct? Will the two applications that I have loaded be in this backup file?10-26-08 09:37 PMLike 0 - I had a similar email/SMS problem on my wife's phone, but doing a battery pull and resending the service books cleared up the problem. Although with as many OS problems as you seem to have it is entirely possible that you may just have a defective phone. No gadget maker bats a thousand on quality control. (although RIM has a far better record than Apple)
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-26-08 11:13 PMLike 0 - I woke up this morning to the same error screen (that I couldn't remember) that I got early last week. The error screen read: App Error 522. I restarted the phone and when it came back on I noticed that all of my messages were gone. So, I am betting that the cause of my problems is that my email app is corrupt. everytime the hourglass is on the phone is trying to upload/download. text seem to go through the phone fine.... but none of my emails are.
Could I be heading in the right direction with this assumption? If I get rid of my email accounts and reset them up, could this solve my Pearl mystery?10-27-08 07:28 AMLike 0 - Last night I deleted all of my email accounts on the phone using the "Email Settings" App. It now shows that I have 0 email accounts on my phone. But when I look at my app icons... it shows that I still have my hotmail and gmail accounts on the phone. So, I am thinking that those two accounts are the ones that are causing all of my issues!
Can anyone help me out with getting rid of them totally... to hopefully get the phone running back to normal?10-28-08 10:03 AMLike 0 -
