Alright, new laptop, so I wanted to download the latest version of Desktop Manager. I'm also downloading the latest OS for my phone, an 8130 through Verizon. Here's my question. Which order do I install the two programs in? And am I going to lose all my data that I have on my Pearl now when I hook it up to the desktop manager for the first time?

Hate to sound stupid here, but you never know until you ask.

I don't think the order matters. And no DM will not erase your data.

Download the DM first, that's what RIM will always tell you to do when upgrading.

Desktop Manager first, it contains the drivers for your BB.
Once it's installed, do a backup and get it sync'd to outlook or wherever your gonna store your contacts.
Then the OS, I would recommend 4.3.0.97 , it's been the best featurewise and most stable for me...
    That would be addressed here..http://forums.crackberry.com/f79/ver...26-08-a-20873/

You're gonna want to clean it all up before you load it, or your memory will go away,
    for that I recommend this..http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...-memory-34633/
