I have thousands of pictures with about 40 folders and it takes about 3-4 seconds to open and render all thumbnails. I have photos saved to a 32 gig memory card

I have never had any problem with lagging. If the photos are stored in SD card, it does take a bit longer, but 10-15 seconds? You got to be kidding.

using a bad SD card, memory corrupted or some files are bad on the phone but. get out your sd card and is it still no good try to do a clean wipe.

My passport is quick in opening folders etc. and tested with the neighbours but his iphone 5S is lagging, he know because the OS sucks but he must wait for 9 months to get a new phone. His sone has a sony Z2 and that one was as quick as mine . Fun thing is that my bank app opens quicker and that is an android app

Try to use UHS-1 cards. I started off with a class 10 and saw a little lag. Since I started using a UHS-1 128 GB card, lag is now non-existent.

Quite... cheap and cheerful SD cards are rubbish. End of.

No lag at all on my Passport. Over 2500 photos on a 32 GB micro SD and it's almost instant. Something is a miss with your SD card.

Given the sort of holdups people report, there may be something with the SQL implementation and scheduling, and maybe its memory management...

I have yet to suffer anything with my Passport, but I have on a couple of occasions had my Z30 lock me out of the phone app for several minutes, presumably whilst reindexing the address book and call history -- it happened once or twice with the hub, as well.

If the bottleneck is there, it stands to reason that the same kind of things would manifest in any library-heavy app that relies on the same database services, such as the photos and music applications. (EDIT: ...and calendar entries, and personal word prediction dictionary, and... you get the picture... :7 )

I'm on a z10 for now and my phone only takes 3-4 seconds to load. I have a good card though.

I have been experiencing some lag also or perhaps you could say freezing. Normally everything works very quickly no problems but the occasional freezing is annoying. Hopefully it's nothing or something updating in the background.

I have just shy of 8k photos on my SD card. 64GB class 10. About 3 seconds to open Pictures app and display. More than acceptable.

That's a lie. The Passport definitely lags lots of times. However, so does the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and virtually every other phone. Poorly optimized apps will do this most often.

No issue. 2-3 seconds to open Pictures. Rebooting your phone every once in a while makes him happy, I find.
    I run latest standard OS.

Passport have no lag is like saying as a men that you never masturbate. I had passport and yes it have lag with 10.3.1. The os isn't well optimized for powerfull hardware.
I am back to q10 from passport and it terms of lag I see no differences.
