Presumably the word HELLO is on the left as it is statistically more used than HELP, which is more frequently used than HELD etc

    Posted via CB10
Yeah. I understand that. What I mentioned was it is different from how Z series shows predictions and that I will find it difficult to adjust to.

There's no shift key so how do u use symbols when memorised and how do u stick a comma or a full stop without a virtual. Hmm

    Mr A Hanif BlackBerry10
A downward swipe on the keyboard would bring up the 'symbols' keyboard on the screen just like on Z series phones now.

And double tap on space bar to enter a full stop.

On a BB keyboard, you don't press shift to get a capital letter, you just long press. If you didn't know that already, you are welcome!
What tanquil said: it slows you down and feels like a break. That's why I never used that option on my legacy devices.

It is faster typing the Capital with shift... Typing it by holding down is also POSSIBLE, but takes the double of the time... thanks God, there's a shift on the screen (lowest row) always visible when you've a writing field!

It's how it works on Q10/Q5.

What's so different about this one? It's just a different language, not symbols. Same as others.

The argument is not that there's no place for symbols in keys, it's been this way since the beginning. It's about changing dynamically what symbols you could promptly use depending on the context. It's even better than full touch or full keyboard to me on this point.
    No, wait...
The argument is not dynamically change symbols... but the loss of physical key to be fast and the waste of screen estate even for basic punctuation.

Although I'd really love dynamic symbols (on keyboard), it's good to have them printed on them.
There is space, considering that the keys are bigger then ever, and would really help.

    Double?
I don't know how slow you type, but for me it's at least 4 time more.

When I heard it was a touch enabled keyboard, I was hoping that meant press an alt key and the letters on the keys themselves change to the characters they have decided to do on a separate keyboard.

The way I read it, you swipe to change modes, and the virtual keys show up with symbols for what is on each key now when you press it. You can press the virtual key, or press the corresponding physical key to get the desired symbol.

But the word predictions don't look like how we are used to on the touch screen devices (in-letter predictions). Because 'hello' is on the left hand side rather than on the right where the next 'L' is located. The same with 'held'.

I think I'll switch the predictions type to (in-column) on my Z10 to get used to this device beforehand.

Yes, but we already have it, I updated Docs to go recently (2-4 months away) and it was already there... I use it from time to time, that's why I know it... here's my Q10's screenshot of it:

I think the sheer size and performance of this device is what will impress...

Everyone who has had hands on seems impressed so I'm going to wait for it before making judgement too much...

It hits Europe first but I wonder will be stocking it....

I only know one person who used it hands on in London and he was NOT impressed with the typing. This is not a device for productivity, the symbols on the virtual keyboard prevent autopilot typing.

I can imagine. Typing on the fly and wanna throw in a comma, the typing flow has to stop cuz you have to swipe down? I like it but little things like that may drive ppl nuts

Maybe it's to save costs on making different keyboards for each region-specific set of symbols. I imagine the new capacitive touch technology makes it a bit more expensive to produce several lots of different keyboards, while guessing necessary volumes based on predicting where the Passport will sell better.

    Posted via CB10
My thoughts exactly. There are a lot of reasons why BB designed the keyboard this way, not the least of which is cost. Also, my personal opinion is that BB loyalist will be happy with the Classic...it's designed to accommodate the fan-base. The Passport on the other hand was designed (I think) to turn heads and attract new customers. In a lot of ways they are throwing caution to the wind on this one with specs, styling and capacitive keyboard etc. All bets are off! They throwing the kitchen sink at it and I'm all for it.

On the screen, the 4th row is always displayed (when texting) as a virtual key row, with Shift, punctuation and Symbol button.
