Maybe this has been asked before, but I thought it would be worth revisiting now that the Priv is going to be released soon.

If BlackBerry allowed you the option to switch your Passport to Android, would you do it?

I'm not talking about dual booting BB10 and Android. If you had to sacrifice your BB10 installation in favour of Android, would it be something you'd consider?

The Passport is decent hardware, and while it works exceptionally well with BB10 installed on it, there are a few issues with it. You know what they are. No Google Play Services mean that some apps do not work well (or at all). Some peripherals don't work with it. Etc, etc.

Of course, an Android version that runs on the Passport would also have issues. Security, for one. It wouldn't be optimized for a 1:1 screen ratio. The virtual buttons would be annoying in this screen size, etc.

So, would you switch to Android?

I think I would consider it. There are things about BB10 I would miss, but the pros of a switch would probably outweigh the cons for me.

Yes, I would. Because there won't be other alternative from BlackBerry. BB10 will be eventually discontinued, anyway.

However the 'Android that works' i.e. Android with complete BlackBerry software suite (Hub etc) would takes $billions to finish. Such a re-engineering process is even more expensive than, say, re-implementing the lastest Android run-time system on BB10, so I think it won't appear any time soon.

BB10 to the end. Then iOS and be dammed.

By that time iPhone 7 or 8 will likely have no home button and be less of a blingy toy.

It would be nice if the later bb10 models (classic and passport) got it or at least a choice whether to switch or not.
If of course it's at all possible, that would probably bring some more fans onside with the latest move to Android.
I am not an Android fan and won't be buying the Priv but I must admit that the phone (hardware) itself looks awesome.

I have a PP original, PP silver and Classic. BB with OS 10 is just so much better than anything else out there. I don't need and don't want an android OS. I don't need or want android apps.

I can put up with a lot from Blackberry but this folly with android is a joke and will be the end of the line for me... and for the company. They will never win customers from the android or iOS camps. They won't sell enough Priv's to subsidise the bits of Blackberry worth saving. If there is something on the Enterprise side that can save the company, then great!

I was talking to some BB sales guys in a pop-up shop in Frankfurt (Germany) last week. The sales guys are hardcore OS 10 fans and they're sales pitch on the Priv/android is that if they hit targeted sales that the revenue will underpin BB building handsets and supporting OS 10. I could only laugh and say "yeah, I really hope you're right". It seems funny that even guys representing the company to the public would prefer to see a future with BB handsets and OS 10.

I'll ride the passport/OS 10 train until the end of the line... then I'll be looking for an alternative (which won't be android or iOS).

I think I would that is if I don't already have the Priv! I would do it just for the stupid apps that need google play services. I was trying to rent a Car2go and I couldn't download the app on my bb10 phone(s) that's pathetic

No. I bought the Passport with BlackBerry 10. If this is going to be the last BlackBerry 10 device, I'd like to keep it clean from anything Android (I don't even use the Runtime). I'm just gonna buy the Priv to have a BlackBerry Android.

Edit: If another BlackBerry 10 were to come out before I buy the Priv, I'd go with a new BlackBerry 10 device and "downgrade" the Passport to Android.

    Definitely not.

If I wanted an Android phone, I would buy one instead of Passport. Even if BlackBerry choose to end OS10 development, I would still be satisfied with my Passport SE (since I am already satisfied now).

I am using 2 phones. PP with BB10 and future Priz with android. I need some Android apps but I don't like to install at BB10 coz it cause problems to my PP. Currently I installed at my OnePlus One and I will replace it with Priz next year.
