What's your definition of an updated Passport? Same form factor, but better internal specs? Android or BB10? Does Mercury not quite check all the boxes?

For me, it would be Mercury, slightly wider, with BB10 (even though the realist in me knows the way forward is Android, and not BB10 ... sigh).

Well I was considering about getting the passport se, but due to the level of media content that I use for work, I have decided to buy the priv. Main reason for a priv now over the potential new mercury launch is I require the screen size..... totally gutted so may have to get a passport as a backup soeme time in the future.

Indeed. Me too. I'm really wondering if it would be worth it to wait for the Mercury or splurge on the Passport SE.

But having a Z30 and a Q5 around, all perfectly working and in tip-top shape, makes me lean towards the former.

I just got a Passport SE after having the AT&T version for two years. Didn't think for a second to switch to Android or Apple. It does everything I need and more. BB10 is a brilliant OS. Really hope that it won't get abandoned.

Absolutely YES!!! Love love love my SE and will happily buy another to have ready when/if this one needs a successor!
Meanwhile, can anyone recommend good BlackBerry Passport tech in US? Just in case my SE needs battery replaced. That's my only concern!

I read an article on Mobile Syrup last night stating that BlackBerry has no intentions of abandoning BB10 and hasn't even ruled out producing a new device with BB10. I'd like to see them update BB10 some and give it a bit of a refresh. To me it's still the best operating system that any mobile phone maker has made. It just needs better native app support, which I know won't come. But a guy can dream.

I've just read the said article, and it stated "The company also revealed that it’s no longer manufacturing any BB10 devices.". It then later stated that, "a representative of the company says, “Regarding new BlackBerry 10 hardware, the company hasn’t commented on the future roadmap.”

Very ambiguous if ya ask me. But, judging from what BlackBerry is doing with their move on Android, one could safely come to the conclusion that BB10 device will not be made again and BB10 os will only be security patch maintained, with no new features added. That's my assessment of the situation.

Judging by the evidence in both print and video. Still, I'm a very happy passport user. SE is in the post and then I will replace battery in my OG.

In order to save the company he wasn't willing to bet the last drop of blood on the hardware. He has made the software end of the company profitable and is making strides in the Android space. It is possible he may do something good with BB10 but all we can do is hope and speculate.
I'm not happy about the decisions for myself but am satisfied with how Chen has turned the company around.
