Games is out of the question for those.

Communication, it depends which apps you use most. For starters, whatsapp is officially discontinued, and messenger works on browser, although an older version works fine for messenging.

Never used whatsapp. It's just texting and Facebook messenger for me.

I would say that you would likely be unhappy with the Passport, judging by your usage needs. You should look elsewhere IMHO.

LaterSend? Isn't that only for messages which you want to send at a scheduled time?

If you don't use advance features on messenger, i.e. just texts and photos, you're fine on the (older) native facebook app. Attachment for videos or files won't work.

Since I've now had the phone for several days and have used it quite heavily, I can answer my own question. The honeymoon period is over and learning curve overcome. Really liking this device - so yes, I am VERY happy moving from Android to BB10 OS. The Priv will be relegated to backup duty and will rest quietly in the drawer of misfit toys until called upon for duty.

Awesome news, and great to hear you're getting along with it (and it with you).

Interesting to hear that in late 2016, someone would relegate a current android device to backup duty in favour of a BB10 device. That mirrors my predicament. We may be a dying breed, but we ain't dead yet! LOL.

    Cheers.

I'm really torn between 'hating' BlackBerry and loving them!
Was pretty emotional the past few weeks, about their direction - as a (very) longtime user, you don't want to accept the fact that your beloved product will change in that way!

But hands down, the Passport (&SE) is the best smartphone that has ever seen the light of day.
It's potential is only minimized by it's software support!

Everyone has some great ideas here.... But for "US" to know if you'd TRULY be happy... knowing you're likes and dislikes is a "start," but I wouldn't want to mislead you., so I'd require a bit more information, such as:
Did you have a happy childhood?
Did you have a good relationship with your mother and so on!

But as a seriously cracked member..... I've had my passport since the day it was releast. It runs so smoothly and despite all the opinions saying BB10 is dead... somehow it's still very alive on my device and although the OS has reached its peak ( maintenance, and fixes to come)
I couldn't be happier and haven't even considered moving.
Sure.... it doesn't have some of the new " totally cool dude" games and other playthings that seem to be a major factor when making your life changing decision as to what "conveniently" handheld mobile device you choose... but then, at this very early stage of the Digital era,.. What we're talking about is really just a very advanced TOY! (kinda like something from The Sharper Image)

And while this latest generation is under the illusion the these devices should "JUST WORK" ... You're not going to find the perfect device because it doesn't exist, yet!
And when mobile devices DO become perfect, they will all be taken off the market the following day and be replaced with some kind of digital chip implant and then, of course, by then, the machines will have already started to rebel and things probably won't end well, so
rather than get a device and be frustrated because of what you can't do with it, get a device and be happy with what you can do with it and just enjoy it while you can.

( Despite being 65 and not being able to see as well as I used to) I just don't get playing games on anything as small as the "way too many choices")of devices being offered. I have a very nice 60" 3D HDTV for the REALLY cool fun stuff.

I use my Passport as RIM/Blackberry has always intended (up to now) which was to target a somewhat more business minded demographic.
A long time ago in a world that no longer seems to exist.. I would have said an older, more mature demographic but in today's world where the children are acting more like teenagers and teanagers are acting more like adults and our so called leaders are acting more like children, it's become somewhat more confusing to know what we used to just take for granted.
Until now, BlackBerry never advertized like the other guys which is all about your social network and sharing music, video's and photos while letting the world know :
    WHAT you're doing,
    WHERE you're going
    HOW you're getting there
    WHEN to get there and
WHY you went there in the first place.

OK! I admit, they should have jump on that bandwagon, but we already get so many complaints about how much they had to spend on their devices, It probably would have just ended up with five times the amount of complainers we already have.
They complain about the name, they complain about the color.
For a long time i thought this was a comedy website ...

And it's just my opinion, but asking that kind of question on this forum will, no doubt, just confuse you more.
You'd be better off asking friends and acquaintances who's opinions you trust.

But then, if you have to ask this group of misfits (myself included) what would make you happy, your issues go much deeper than what mobile device you want.

But, you're not alone. I'm just one of the lucky ones that just enjoys what my device DOES offer.

Now, where were we? Oh, yes... about your childhood...........
Although i m in my mid thirties, i so much identify with your post.
I hav seen ppl my age tweet/ Facebook about what angle they r ***ting at.
I hav seen ppl complain about such trivial issues as "it takes so much time to load", if a connection is slow. This, i feel, is a very small portion, of a very large issue of extinction of the ability to adapt.
In a larger sense, is also the surfacing of the bad effects of capitalism. In the sense that the new crop hasn't faced hardships of the old era & thus starts taking things for granted.
    Nice post Sir.

    Thanks Blackmass!
People are so into the mobile device revolution that they are quickly forgetting how to relate and converse with people personally.
I love computers and mobile devices. I remember a time when you'd be walking in a crowd and you'd know the ONE crazy person who was talking to him/herself. Now, it's the one person in the crowd that doesn't have their mobile device planted to their ear.

NO ONE NEEDS TO BE ON THE PHONE AS MUCH AS THEY ARE TODAY!

My first computer came with the software. (yeah, you read that right) I got into Hair Design in my late 30's and I came across this imaging software where you could take a picture of someone and digitally set up their face on the monitor and show them what they'd look like BEFORE they got their hair styled.
For $6,000. (six thousand dollars) you got an HP Vector (the first business computer for consumers) a whopping 10MB Hard Drive, 150 MB of RAM A "Combo Card" which had the graphics, audio and dial up modem on it, a floppy (no optical) and a gigantic 13" monitor. The digital camera was a Kodak and the first of it's kind offered to the consumer market. It was the size of a small sub sandwich.
And it didn't even come with an OS. Windows 2.0 would be releast about a year later around 1987. Booting up that computer took several minutes.

    It was so cool.
Living in the Monterey Bay Area (a resort) I had clients come from hundred of miles when they came down for vacation. I was the only hair designer in the entire state of California that offered this.
I never cut hair for guys. My motto was: If your hair isn't as long as mine, you don't need a haircut. My hair was and still is below my waste.
I'm straight and working on woman was a sensual (NOT sexual...mostly) experience.

Anyway, The point is we've come a very long way in a very short time. Kids today have No idea how good they've got it.
They've never heard of The Beatles and no matter how you try to explain it they just don't get telephone answering machines.

Fantasy Sci-Fi of the 50's has become today's reality. We already have the ability to clone people and they've created Robots that have the ability to THINK and evolve.

The machines ARE coming and our grandchildrens grandchildren will wonder in amazement how the kids of today did nothing but complain about some game that didn't work right .

And they'll no doubt think .... "their great great grandfather was a total idi0t.

(of course, this is just my opinion and I'm just glad I won't be around when the machines take over.)

There are enough people on this website, alone, that seem to know more than the CEO's and employee's of the companies that create these devices. But ,no matter how you try to explain it to me, I just don't get why they prefer complaining on this website instead of actually doing something creative to actually help build a better device.

I've been helping people on CB for years with their issues. Way back when... they were so eager to try suggestions and thankful for the help.
Today's kids EXPECT help and even when they are told exactly how to fix their issues, they still argue with us.

I've always considered myself "the comic relief" around here. The hardest thing for me to get used to is NOT that today's generation doesn't get my sarcastic sense of humor, but that THey were programmed without one.

    Absolutely!
But then comedy is just a funny way of being serious.
Personally , I don't do serious. I've been studying humans since I was 17. I'm now making my journals into a book called: Faulty Wiring... a comic tragedy!
I always try to find the humor in everything., So while it reads as a comedy, it's really a horror story. Humans do everything backwards. If I could just figure out why you all don;t walk backwards, I could finish my book and go home, If you liked George Carlin you'll like this.

Being a 60's child, we really thought we could change the world with Love. But, then take Jesus, Gandhi , Medger Evers, JFK, RFK, Martin Luther king and John Lennon for example. They were all advocates for peace and they were all assassinated.
We have overpopulation, world hunger and no cure for cancer. So a group of scientists got together and created Viagra and considered that an achievement! Need I say more. Except, you humans don't like to fail and you're spiraling down the yellow brick road to destruction. And won't stop until you get it right. And you will get it right eventually. Unfortunately, on that day, there won't be anyone to congratulate on a job well done.

Although all this is out of context with these forums, i do tend to feel this -

The current state of the world is very unstable.

People hav forgotten how to adapt, they hav become so dependent on technology, that they hav forgotten about a world outside it.

With near perfect technology, as in comparison to the old tech, they hav become so particular about the tech to just work that they refuse to compromise on even the pettiest issue.

Ppl don't realise, we hav come to ordering a pizza, and getting it delivered within 20 minutes, through an app, in some holiday resort far from our home towns where we reached driving the most advanced 4x4 with such a robust engine that it runs smoothly for miles & miles, using a satellite to direct us with each little turn on the way. We hav taken all this for granted, we forget the even 20 - 30 years earlier all this was not possible.

Some of us forget that not long ago, we were used to seeing the little globe icon go round & round on the top right corner of the Internet Explorer and we wud accept that, as we were using the dial-up modem. Some, i feel, don't even know what that is.

This loss of acceptance is reflected in all the spheres. Ppl r not willing to accept the views that are different from theirs. They are so reluctant to adapt that they wud rather see Blackberry, the company, close down in order to give them a phone of their choice, than to settle for a different phone and hope the company to cut losses.

The change/ evolution is so rapid that a product is obsolete by the time it reaches an e-tailer.

And we hav ppl running after the newest product, without even utilizing one-fourth of what they hav paid for the current product, because it's cool to hav the latest product.

The need to b validated by others has become paramount.

And then, we blame companies for this - Google, apple etc. It's the duty of companies towards their investors to maximize profits.

They WILL cultivate children from a very young age to get acclimatized to their products in order to ensure future customers. It's our duty to make children into stable human beings.

As for the machines, yes they r definitely coming. Machines are becoming smarter by the day and we humans r become dumber by the day, we bask in the glory of the smart machines we hav created. And we forget that we r so dependent on them now that we can't remember a simple phone number we need, because Google knows it anyway. There is going to b a day, when Google knows so much that it wud rather put us dumbos to suspended animation and runs the world as it wishes to.

As for peace, with so much power at fingertips & near zero tolerance/ acceptance, violence is a natural successor. And i don't need to write anything about the magnitude & volume of violence there is in the world today. Not only at macro & micro level but also at the domestic level.

To slow down the pace of evolution, to make people a bit tolerant, i feel nature will put some corrections in place. I think the current phase is slowly but surely taking us into the phase of that corrections.

The great Einstein must hav predicted all this when he warned us about the implications of the third world war.

    I think it is inevitable.

    I fully agree with you.
But I see it that way:
BlackBerry 10 has become mature enough to run smoothly without too many bugs, which makes great in combination with the Passport.

The twist is: Do you remember the jumps form 10.0 to 10.1 or 10.2?
Lots of awesome features were added, battery life increased a lot, it ran smoother and smoother.
Those things have come to an end - which makes it 'dead'.
I don't expect too much from 10.3.3 - just the certificate and maybe small browser improvements and that's a shame.
Sure we might see bug fixing etc., but I think for the rest it will go the playbook-way - and I don't care what BlackBerry claims.

But yeah, that does not change the fact that the Passport is great, durable and gets the job done.
And governments, banks or big companies only need e-mail mostly.

There's no right or wrong except for stating their personal opinions as if it were fact.
The main problem here is so much negativity which causes confusion and that so many members obviosly know more about how to fix mobile devices than the CEO's and employee's that are actually creating these devices.

What I don't understand is why those of you spend all your time here complaining instead of going to work for one of those companies.

How come no one ever complains about their home computers. On the average, they are years old and once the OS reaches it's peak you still use it for years with no complaints. .Yet, you complain about a small handheld mobile device that's still very much in the very early stages of this new Digital age we''ve just begun to experience.

While so many of you are wasting a lot of negative energy complaining about what you don't have..... life is passing you by. While most people are embracing what they know isn't perfect with a positive attitude and are enjoying what they do have.

But, if you want to make yourself miserable over a toy to play games on ..... Don't complain when the only job you can find makes you ask the question "Would you like fries with your happy meal.?" .

I am afraid handhelds are seen just "more" than the simply working machines called a pc.

It's time to become a handheld also just a working machine.

Small and handy (like us Germans name it) but simply a machine

Youth has always been about attaching to something. It used to be bands (Stones vs. Beatles in the 60s/70s). And arguing to death why the other band is inferior. That switched to brand consciousness in the 80s and 90s. Now we're well into the second decade of the millenium, and today's youth, in need of something, has latched onto Android, iOS, or the swan song of BB10.

It's no different than it's ever been. It's just that the names have changed.

Considering the way i wrote this... I agree with you.

I stopped saying "I'm always right," because I assumed, by now, everyone already knew that!
But, I have to expect that there will always be a few who are in denial about it.
I also have as much authority as the Pope. I just don't have as many followers. (WHAT???? You don't believe me??)

But I feel kinda cheated missing the "arguing to death" phase.
But, seeing both the Beatles ('63) and The Stones ('64) for the first time at Carnegie Hall, in NYC, kinda makes up for that.

And, you obviously won the last argument so there's no way I'm gonna argue with you.

    HEY!!
Does anyone know if the OP ended up happy?
I heard ( and this is just a rumor, mind you) but he became so confused after reading these posts,
he gave up all his worldly possessions and joined a monastery to become a monk!

Either that, or he is enjoying his Passport, limitations and all. Lol

The rumors are true! I indeed left everything behind, except my Passport, for the simple life. Someone snapped a photo of me yesterday in my new garb. Disregard the confused look on my face. I love this phone!
