I'm not sure which display i prefer most. I thought colours really popped on my Q10 vs my Z10. But the Z10 was brighter. Which display do you folks prefer? I find it odd how often blackberry flip flopped. They had an lcd on the z10 then and amoled on the q10 and z30, then back to lcd on the passport. Which is better? Is one more expensive to produce? Curious to hear your thoughts

I used to think Amoled looks nicer but IPS makes a lot more sense now. LCD have gotten a lot more advance now a days that it can produce better pitch black and more higher color contrasting reproduction.

Because Amoled is organic the over saturated colors fades out over time and hard to read in sunlight. So IPS all the way for me.

What if we were allowed to choose a pretty blacked-out theme, and that was paired with an AMOLED panel. How much battery life would we gain, or is that argument kinda over nowadays?

    I like the Passport's display more than my Q10, Z10 or Z30.

Once they solve the burn-in issues with the AMOLED technology, I'd rather prefer it over LCD. But as long as this remains a technology related problem, I say LCD all the way.

Don't own a Passport but yes, if done right AMOLED screens can look beautiful, my Nokia 808's screen still looks better than my z10, even with a painfully low resolution for modern devices.

It's a hell of a better than it used to be, if you're not a c**k with it you'll be fine.

The overblown saturation of AMOLED displays is horrible in my opinion. They are also short lived.

Inferior technology compared to IPS if you ask me.

I think you've used too many Samsung AMOLED's, they aren't all over blown, an AMOLED which has been software optimized properly wipes the floor with IPS.

Maybe it's due to my untrained eye, but I actually preferred the AMOLED of my Q10. I really liked the deep blacks with no light behind them, colors had more contrast, and actually I had less trouble viewing things in sunlight (but that could be due to the fact that turning the brightness down all the way barely had an effect on the brightness..)

However, the Q10 screen was small and pixel dense so of course it looked nice. Never seen a large AMOLED screen before, so I couldn't really say which is technically better. I only have preference :3

My Z30 screen is very nice, the colours really pop more than my Z10 and Passport. I also don't really like the "glow", or backlight in bedside mode on the passport. The Z30 is is totally blacked out and looks better.

considering the fact that i keep the brightness on my Passport pretty low, I actually wouldn't mind an AMOLED screen that would consume less battery

If given the choice I'd go with AMOLED for the battery life. It's not hard to for me to read it in sunlight.

There attributes on my Z30 I like over my Passport, and vice versa. I'm torn but slightly leaning towards the Passport. I can live without black black if it means the white looks brighter.

I prefer Passport 's screen more than Z30 's. But that 's because of the pixel density and brightness, not because of the difference between LCD and AmoLED. So I guess I dont know which one I would prefer if they have the same pixel density and brightness.

My Note 2 has Super AMOLED screen. It is all but impossible for me to read it in bright sunlight, even at full brightness. I can have my Passport at the lowest brightness and still be able to read it in sunlight. Soooo...that is my preference, and to me that is all that is relevant. It was asked, I answered. Your preference might be different.
