Keyboard still looks awkward even after reproportioning, IMO. There's a space bar between 'v' and 'b'?

...but it looks like 1440x1440 screen will be the next qwerty device, and as such will not be rectangular...

    Just my two cents.
Great point. The leaked specs for Windermere state square, 1:1 res... not rectangular as this mock up illustrates.

    Looks good though...

Then this is not a windermere concept then, as the shrunken keyboard would make no sense with a square screen where numbers would take up even more screen real estate.

Especially considering a square screen would lend plenty of room for a portrait keyboard and still result in a usable device.

I don't think that blackberry would use any larger of a square screen, it would result in an extemely wide and unwieldy device.

Want BlackBerry to survive but will not support innovative design. Don't pick it apart, offer suggestions. Or just tell Mr. Chen and the rest of the company to stop trying. Just give up, lock the doors and quit!

The only feature that would push me to upgrade to a new BB with a keyboard is... the trackpad. This feature I need when I write long emails or when I have to proofread documents.

i think this is just a prototype and i don't think this will be the actual hardware, particularly with the keyboard though, it's gonna be a disaster one if the keyboard happens to be like this for the next Q.. i believe the next Q will have the same or even better keyboard experience.

I hope you are right and they stretched the leek photos because if not BlackBerry will be mocked so horribly for that device. The compresses version looks right.

As pointed out, it's most likely a DEV / Prototype device.

I believe this is a dev device forsure, but the difference as seen in your pictures are that the dev alpha devices for q10 and z10 were the actual q10 and z10 in a casing (hence the reason so squared). This device doesn't seem to have any additional casing. Although I still believe this is a testing unit and not final design. More to test screen size and keyboard

    P.S.

Looking at the original image of "windmere", I do not believe the image is distorted.

I believe the image to be accurate, an the keyboard physically shrunk to maximize screen space. As pointed out, the rest of the phone is in correct proportion. The BlackBerry logo is accurate and in proportion. The camera is round, not distorted, and the "NOT FOR SALE" font is accurate as per other pre-release / dev devices. In addition, the screen pictured is exactly 1:1 ratio - it's a perfect square which matches the ratio of the Q10 (drop the image into paint, and measure the pixels yourself).

Now, this may still be a DEV or prototype and the final product will probably look much nicer, but I'm actually thinking this is the final keyboard size. They may adjust the cosmetics (font use, etc), but I think this is the new QWERTY Keyboard size.

I'm also interested that very few have commented on the rear camera. It looks much beefier than the existing 8MP shooters on the Z10/Z30/Q10 range. Could the protruding lens section indicate upgraded internals / sensor?

Also, the size of the "BlackBerry" logo on the screen - looks to be smaller than on the Q10 - possibly indicating a significant DPI increase?

I surmise that they keys on the keyboard are optical like the track pad and are for swiping gestures like on the Z10/Z30.

I never claimed it was the Q30. I believe that it is a PROTOTYPE for the Q30, to test a few different design ideas.

When it's dressed up, it fits the part.
I'd buy this BlackBerry in a heartbeat!

Edit: In the leaked pictures, notice what it has written on the device in the lower left: Not For Sale.
Most BlackBerry beta devices have that engraved on them.

Great write-up and beautiful render, OP. I also believe the keyboard looks altered and shrunk.

    MY THEORY:
If the keyboard does in fact have some kind of touch sensitivity, I suspect this will be on one key only: the space bar. I suspect they may be bringing back the trackpad, embedding it onto the space bar, but with added functionality such as the ability to flick words up when typing.

Something else I'm wondering is if BlackBerry would move away from their standard resolutions. Could the bottom part of the screen be for action bars or other things such as word predictions? We'll see.

    Wow, thanks everyone!

I don't think this device will be ugly. BlackBerry may make some poor spec decisions, but every BB10 device thus far has been very attractive. If this phone is released, it will definitely be my next BlackBerry!

Great job. Well done. I think you onto something. Makes me wonder why BB is suing Typo. IMO the Z30 is ugly. Would of preferred the Z30 to look like the Z10. Just saying.
