Well, I tried Security wiping it for the past two days and it sticks on 98%. I read up on the forums and was wondering if updating it would have the same effect as the auto-loader method as well.

As a rule of thumb... you should always be running the latest OS. The whole purpose of updates is to add fixes and upgrades along with some new surprises, to make your device work better.

BTW....You should NEVER have to do a security wipe unless you plan on losing your phone

If you don't want to use an autoloader, "Side Load " the files with Sachesi or Darcy's Tools. THey are both easy to use!

But you do it at your own risk! ( I have to say that to cover my behind!)

Seriously no reason to security wipe.
Use an autoloader to get out of the security wipe, or try using BlackBerry link and doing a device reload (which you should have done from the start)
