I'm really interested in getting the passport but really don't want to spend close to $800 Canadian.

I've never bought a phone outright before so I don't know what to expect. Would you expect it to be cheaper around Christmas? If I were to buy it from Shop BlackBerry in the US, will it work in Canada. I am on Telus.

    Thanks

I doubt it will be going on sale anytime soon given the demand and availability. Talk to your Telus person and see if you can trade in with a small penalty. Or sell the phone you have and use that to buy the Passport. It looks like the US phone will work. You can buy it from ShopBlackberry in Canada for 699 when they have stock.

Goto your Telus account and check your device balance. I had a 3 year on my Z10. It was around $200 for the balance on my z10.

My passport cost around $400 on a new 2 year contract with telus.

I also get to keep the Z10 as well.

Don't you now have to have a plan of at least $75? I have a $55 plan that works great for me.

Nice, hopefully they will allow me to do that. Is your plan more than $75?

With Telus it's a minimum $55 plan. There won't be any penalty, as mentioned above, you will pay out your device balance, plus the $250 for the passport on a two year plan.

Thanks buddy. Super helpful comment. Out of curiosity, why is it on sale in the states then? Regular $699 on for $599. I was under the assumption that sales help you sell even more product.

Yep.... and Dang!...... I was too late on that 25% off deal. I am glad to hear at least that the coupon was still honoured even though it was apparently a mistake. Great for those whom took advantage of it.

As Dave pointed out clearly... demand far exceeds BlackBerry production capability for Passport... don't expect any reduction in price any time soon.....

Still underpriced IMO for what you are getting! Amazon.com or Shopblackberry.com.

    From my awesome Passport

Of course it will go on sale. Just a question of when. Possible something could show up before Christmas.

I am waiting on a Passport - they're pricey, but I am convinced they are worth it! Today, I went into AT&T to get a sim card and plan for a gently used unlocked 9900 (to test-ride at home office and determine if there is GMS signal where I live, which is quite near a Sprint tower - what my 4s runs off) - OT but get this -- even being FIVE miles from nearest AT&T tower, the phone calls I made this afternoon on the 9900 were crystal clear. So I'm excited about getting a Passport, but WHEN -- that's the question!

AT&T guy in charge said that they have heard nothing about when or even IF that store will carry it. He said that market value determines in-store stock (or something like that) and that the Passport will probably be a special order device only. He also pretty much implied that he doubted there would be any price breaks on the Passport, not even for a new customer to sign up for 2 years.

It's just a waiting game. But still it's okay - because eventually I'll have a Passport! Being out in the country (no TMO signal out here at all) I'm THRILLED that the 9900 gets such a good call signal even with AT&T tower 5 miles away (hilly, too) - and the 9900's speaker works way better than the 4s's speak and the 4s call quality is always iffy, even with the Sprint tower only a quarter-mile away - go figure!!! Passport going on sale at AT&T in the US? That's pretty much wishful thinking but only time will tell and I believe in miracles!

$599 USD converts to around $675 CAD +/- depending on the day. It looks like it's priced more for conversion rates than truly being on sale. In that respect the prices are almost identical.

As I have not purchased a new phone outright, but get my new phones on carrier plans, I do not look at the MSRP, but rather at the amount they expect me to put down on the 2 year plan. These numbers fluctuate, and I am waiting until the amount is a more reasonable number. Of course, I am too few months into my plan to update without the amount approximating the outright purchase price I cannot see the price going down any time soon, as the sales justify the current pricing.

It is on sale in the US as they are trying to revive sales in the US. They are taking a hit on margin to do this. Sales help you when you are trying to get do this. But if you are selling out in areas and you have no stock or selling everything you can get into the market, it doesn't make sense to put it on sale.

The minimum Telus plan is $70 now so you would have to add 15 bucks in additional addons to your plan......if you sign a new contract. Buy the phone outright and your plan will stay the same
