Does anyone know if the Passport supports wifi calling? I am asking about the unlocked version since T-Mobile won't be getting one.

I believe that for as long as it is running official TMO OS, it can do wifi calling. But as it is now, since TMO is not even selling BlackBerry phones, much less the passport, no.

(Although I'm on TMO, I don't have the passport - for now at least)

That's my guess too, but it's just a guess.
Hopefully there's some CB members actually using a Passport on T-Mo already that can shed some light.

I asked a T-Mobile tech support rep today and she said that it should work. She said one with AT&T software probably wouldn't but one from BlackBerry direct should have wifi calling enabled.

I do not find the TMOBILE wifi calling app in BlackBerry world when I look from the Passport. I do not think that for now is possible to use that feature.
I would love to have it as well

Can anyone confirm whether Passports (or, if tested, other models) enabled for wi-fi calling on other networks (Orange, Rodgers) will work on the TMO network? Some cursory research suggests that the wi-fi calling itself is a standardized technology so I'm hopeful the necessary infrastructure as built-in by other operators will serve to obtain a fully functional TMO Passport ....

Here is the link but I don't think it is compatible with Passport.

How do I know if I can use wifi calling? Is there an app I need to download first?

I'm thinking the same. I used to be on AT&T, and I used to get the "enable group message" check box.

Here's the thing tho. Sometimes wi-fi calling is supported if t mobile has patched the os for that feature. I'm not sure as I'm a Rogers Wireless user?

On the text app, settings, text messages advanced (press the slider icon below the screen) - choose send text as MMS instead of SMS. Pls confirm if that works.

As far as I know and confirmed by many of the posts in this forum related to the topic,

WI-FI CALLING WILL NOT WORK FOR PASSPORT IN T-MOBILE NETWORK.

As far as group text messages go, you can force your passport to use MMS full-time, but that would not work with iOS users. The "Enable Group Conversation" box never appeared for me when I was on t-mobile.

Why not use bbm for voice and video calling on wifi. I do it all the time.

Of course bbm app is available on ios and android to download.

There's really no comparison here. If I'm in a sub-basement with no cell reception, connected to wifi, I want to be able to receive my text messages and make calls like normal. BBM, unless universally used, really isn't a substitute.

I am on TMOBILE and no wifi calling. It is disabled. Worked great on my Q10 though! Truthfully, don't really miss it. The phone is great at picking up AT&T when I am in my office, so I always have coverage for phone calls.

Sure... But there's no substitute when traveling. Free phone calls from China and brazil with just a wifi connection at Mcdonald's? It's really a fantastic technology; maddening the TMO issue, I really want to snap up a Passport....

I have a Passport on TMO, and there is no wifi calling. That is TMO proprietary software. Besides, if you're using wifi calling, it still counts against your minutes. And, I had a lousy experience using it. I would have calls dropped, or couldn't make calls at all using it. I finally turned it off on my TMO branded Z10.

Yes, you can group text on the Passport with all contacts and replies showing in the same screen.
