anyone know why the blackberry passport wont work with shazam or soundhound it don't detect music say microphone may be in use..
In my z10 at least soundhound works fine when it comes to shazam i cant say that! i have unlocked device. try to re-instal your apps
soundhound should work delete it and download it again
I had the exact same problem with my AT&T Passport. I have only had my Passport for 4 days and when I did the device switch from my Z10 it transferred my Soundhound, however I did not use Soundhound until today and it will not find the songs. I uninstalled and reinstalled the BlackBerry World version as well as trying the Android version.
Both open fine, just wont find the songs as they used to on my Z10. I then tried the Shazam app that I used years ago but stopped because I found Soundhound of better use.
Shazam says the same error you have: Microphone in use by another app.
I tested that with the BBVE testing app and at that time the BBVE testing app says IT TOO had no permission for the microphone and wouldn't work.
I uninstalled Soundhound and Shazam, rebooted my Passport and then the BBVE testing app worked fine. So I downloaded Shazam again and this time it doesn't have the error, it now says to move the device closer to the song. I have my Passport directly over the speakers of my laptop and tried that up to one foot away and it still does not find the song. Keeps saying to get closer so it can hear it.
I have not found a solution as of yet, but hoped to mention how I did mine in the hope if you tired, it would then have Shazam no longer say that the microphone was in use by another app like you mentioned here.
Sorry, but if I find a solution, I will post here.

I've noticed the same thing with Soundhound on my AT&T Passport. Also no Iheartradio either

Restart, not just an ATT version issue.

Thanks, I tried searching Google for the APK of Shazam and I couldn't locate one that was the version your screenshot shows, but it was too risky to find a website that I could download an APK from as each link had tons of popup and malware security issues.
Do you know how to locate that APK from a trusted source?

I wanted to add that I had to reboot the phone to get the App to work & haven't tested the finding out how well it works.

Thank you so much for the reply and the link, the link was one with multiple APK versions of Shazam that seemed to be trusted.
I installed the version you suggested and based on my location, I didn't have any music to Shazam except for my own Passport playlists, which it did work for the song I played. I was happy. I then got home and turned Pandora on my TV to test the Shazam app again and it still would not locate the song. I tried several times and no luck. I wondered if it was the distance I was from my TV being too far and assumed something about the Passport noise reduction possibly hindering the Shazam hearing the song. Of course this is all in my head as a possible reason.
So I grabbed my laptop and tried Shazam while playing a song on the laptop, unfortunately Shazam crashed the instant I opened it. I tried to open again and it stayed open but when I tried to listen for a song, the app reverted to the original error of saying the Microphone was in use by another app. Which I confirmed with the BBVE test app and it was unable to test the microphone as it was too saying in use by another app.
I decided to delete the app again and rebooted my Passport and now I have use of the microphone again. But sadly, I have no Shazam or Soundhound.
So disappointing as I used Soundhoud constantly on my Z10 and previous Blackberry devices.
I do not understand what would keep them from working but I appreciate you taking the time to help.

So I tried the App after reading about your difficulties & found that it seems to work fine.
I tuned into a music channel, listened to a track & the app picked it up almost right away. Strange yours doesn't seem to work.

Reboto your device if it says microphone is in use.
Have you tried using another Source other the you phone? I found that it will work if the music is playing on the phone but say from car radio or TV it will not work.

I tuned into MuchMusic on the TV, the Canadian version of MTV, so the music wasn't on my phone already.

Mine does on snap.

I remembered that the update for BlackBerry Runtime for Android had an update not too long ago that I did have on my Z10 that I checked and it was not on my Passport.
I went to BlackBerry World and downloaded it, rebooted Passport, opened Runtime, and tested both versions of Soundhound, BBW and Snap and to no success.
I rebooted one more time and still no success.
I wonder if I should reflash the Blitz of 10.3.2.2813 or based on the posts here seeing that it works on 10.3.2.2876, I flash the Blitz of that on my Passport.
Thoughts?
Well flashing the Blitz 10.3.2.2813 didn't fix the problem, I then flashed the Blitz 10.3.2.2876 and the Soundhound BBW and Snap version will pickup a song that I play directly from my Passport but not from the TV nor the Laptop. So confusing.
I could use the wipe and autoloader but not sure it's worth it. I am calling it a loss for now. Thanks for all of the suggestions and support.

Soundhound works fine on my AT&T Passport, so I don't know what to tell you.
I'm considering it might be my OS version - PassportSQW100-3/10.3.2.2876 AT&T
