This seems to be a big deal to people. I could download the Android key bank app but I don't see the point. I can do all I need either via the mobile site or sms.
For a quick balance look up, I just use sms. For other stuff, the mobile site.
I don't do deposits from my phone but I mostly get direct deposit anyway.

I, for one, have direct deposit for my paycheck. However, i also receive checks from other sources that need to be deposited every week. I save lots of time but clicking a pic of my check and depositing it into my account without needing to go to the bank!

Mobile check deposit. Driving to an ATM or mailing a check to the bank is so 1990's!

Here in the UK, Barclays Mobile banking is highly featured, I can see all my accounts even credit cards with Barclaycard, make payments and transfers, it can even act as the RSA security device should I need to log onto main internet banking site. It is a absolute game changer in how easy it is to manage my accounts. Unfortunately its also means my wife can equally easily see whats being spent on a daily basis so I can no longer hide those impulse buys......

I like having banking apps over the website, because the apps work faster, as I don't need to see all the web pages.
In other words less data to laid on the screen.

Personally I find the banking apps just work nicer and have a cleaner user interface.

I'm logged in to the mobile version of the my bank's website.. so when I want to check my account.. I simply click on the icon, and I can check.. I also can do deposits with it.. don't need the app.

For banking. Why else would I need a banking app?

Joking aside I'm glad you found an alternate means for your needs, but apps provide functionality which websites don't. I think it's safe to say apps have become the norm for majority of customers, and they will be for quite some time

Sure but no reason why the mobile site can't look like the app. Alerts might need to function differently. Maybe texts instead of a native notification.

LOL, not necessarily. I don't subscribe to using apps for all things, but better UI and notifications are just some of the reasons an app might be preferred to a website on a mobile device.

Again. It's because they've done it that way not because they can't have it work the same way on the Web. http://how-old.net/# is an example of a site that calls the picture gallery / file manager.

I realize that different users have different needs.

It is true that a rich mobile site is capable of doing what most apps do, they just don't set them up that way. It's a shame really. I have a ton of apps I would love to dump in favor of proper mobile sites, but there is either not a mobile site at all, or the mobile site is crippled.

I just saved a link to my banks mobile site. I can do everything from it. Even deposit checks. Only reason I can see someone needing it is to get notifications. I my go around is setting up email notifications.

But in absence of 'apps', users have no option but to access it through conventional way i.e. through website, wherein you probably need to zoom the screen to make it readable and convenient to access.

My bank sends me a text when my account is accessed. This was a feature of my old BBOS 9900 and for what ever reason it still works under BB10 because I still have the same phone number.

I do not mind mobile sites. In some cases like with Amazon they are preferred.

What they could potentially do doesn't help me if they are not actually doing it. That's why I use a banking app. My banking app does check deposits and has a layout optimized for my phone's screen size. The Web site does neither.
