What do Indian or Malaysian BlackBerry users think.
Fashions change and differ across the world.
Recall watching a TV program about design couple of years back. Motor scooters were discussed.
At the time (and probably still now) for european market curvy rounded retro style scooters were big sellers. But in India rounded scooters were unfashionable. Angular designs were a must.

I'd put it down to the Hindustan Ambassador effect?

    Europeans/Americans think curves - think Porsche 911
Indians think curves - think Hindustan Ambassador.

I don't know why they would do that....its the ugliest phone I have ever seen. No keyboard so I wouldn't get it anyway.

Rounded corners would make it bigger. The bezel area required around the screen is fixed (and square). Any rounded area would need to be in addition to this. You can't just chop out bits of the internals.

I really like the square corners. I hope they keep to the format presented.

You can't say that. We don't know how the internals are... and most of it is dedicated to the battery, since everything else can be places in smaller phones (like the Q10).

Why do Sony, Nokia, and even Blackberry with the z3 use pointy corners?

Because it's perfectly fine to use them.

I'm guessing realistically that it's cheaper and faster to make a device with pointed corners than rounded ones, due to a simpler manufacturing process. The production model may be different.

Pointy corners is hard to hold and will hurt your hands after prolonged usage.. the corner will stay dug into your skin... hence why most phones are rounded at corners...

    BlackBerry messed up with that....

I really don't see people holding the Passport diagonally, so the corners digging into skin isn't likely to be that much of an issue

Emh... hello? Typing? Or just holding it?

From corner to diagonally opposite corner? You'd need hands the size of a bunch of bananas. People are going to hold it from the sides.

    What?
Can you show me how you handle your phone?

I think I've never seen anyone holding it only from the sides...

Look at any live photo of the Blackberry Passport and you will see the person gripping the sides, not diagonally. The only right-angles on the Passport are when viewed from the front - the back plate is smoothed off and slightly curved. This means that the only possible way to handle the phone in a way that digs into your skin is to hold it diagonally, a feat which is virtually impossible for any human hand.

Please, hold you phone with both hands and look where the metacarp of thumb goes...

In pretty much every photo I've seen, people rest it on their fingers, using their little finger to support the bottom of the device. The thumb is an entire palm away. The width of the Passport precludes trying to use one thumb to reach all the way across it. I've even just simulated typing on my actual passport (as in the travel document), and I really can't see where the potential for the corners digging in arises. The back is already rounded.

Not really. The phone is held pretty steady when typing, the thumbs dart over it from above.

Never seen so much bickering. Not like these corners are going to slice a hole in your pocket or in you hand.
