Because as shareholder of BlackBerry, I would love this scenario but it's not and never has been realistic. Hardware is not a business that BlackBerry is putting forth any effort to dominate. The company has never attempted to be dominant in the hardware business. They fell backwards into the hardware business in the 00's and wasn't prepared for it. How easily and quickly they gave up to IOS and/or Android through no defensive strategy in 06-08 shows that. The company has always been about the software and only produced hardware since it didn't exist already. The model they are hoping to follow is that of Microsoft PC or Android mobile where the software is paid for through licensing use on any brand of device neutral. Looking at 20% adoption rate of all smartphone users would yield revenue like the old days @ $5.00/month per device. The company has never really made $$$$ from devices like they did from software license revenue from BES /BIS in the 00's with the Big 4 carriers and/or their predecessors. The best shot BlackBerry has to succeed profitably, is to support Android software and break stranglehold IOS has on the industry by placing it's software on EVERY Android phone regardless of brand through a consumer demanded piece of software that everyone will request and pay $5/month for on any phone. However, now, they need to do a better job of sharing piece of that revenue with the carriers unlike they did with BES/BIS revenue in the 00's.

Unless I am willing to buy every BlackBerry phones that they release and I will not, it ain't gonna happen. But let hope they gonna get 2 percent market shares in 2 years first, and I will be very happy if it does happen.
