Stuck at Pearson waiting on a late night flight to Queens. Pretty quiet around here so I figured I'd knuckle down and watch a couple of shows I have loaded up on here.

While it's true that the square nature of the screen makes widescreen/HD viewing a little awkward, the screen is perfect for a guy like me who was a child of the '80s. Standard res TV programs look great on the screen.

Question though; most movies even old ones are remastered and reformatted to widescreen. On the PP, does that top right button give the option for a 4:3 zoom on the screen even on 16:9 videos?

I have absolutely no problems watching video in letterbox. It does not bother me one bit.

that's exactly what happened when you watched your 80's videos in letterbox format on the tube TVs, all the widescreen goodness got cut off the original 16:9 film. thus, these movies were formatted to fit better in 4:3.

This letterbox complaint from iPhone users has confused me. I have a work-issued iPhone 5 (not the newest but not that old). If I hold the iPhone screen next to my personal BlackBerry Passport running a video, the visible part of the video is about the size of the iPhone screen (a tiny bit smaller, but not by much). So I am seeing essentially the same size video on both my Passport and the iPhone, its just the Passport has a letterbox around it. And so that makes the Passport video experience bad?

Now I agree with the newer larger iPhones and Androids, there is a difference. But people were complaining about this before there were many of the large screen phones on the market. If you were happy with your iPhone 5 playing videos, then you'll be fine with the Passport playing videos too.

This was a simple thread to post clips of videos people were watching on their Passports. You decide to come in here and start delivering a sermon that quite frankly...nobody asked for.

Who started complaining that the Passport video experience was bad? Who actually said that verbatim?

Nobody. Before delivering lectures, you should learn that there is an obvious difference between complaints and observations.

My stating that watching letterbox content on the PP screen was a little awkward due to its square size was just an observation. If I had said that watching letterbox content on the PP screen was absolute f**king horses**t, that would be a different story. I was never an iPhone 5 user anyways so your premise does not include me.

the more i look at it the resolution seems like a toss between 16:9 and 4:3 on the PP.



remember 2.35:1 resolution? black bars even on a widescreen.

Most of them are conversions from VHS or DVD. Some of them are purchases back from when I was part of the Apple ecosystem that I converted for playback on my other devices.

I have a bunch of music videos on my Passport as well. Love this song from Pressure and I'll be spending Christmas with family in St. Thomas this year.
