The PassPort should come in first followed by the car. Because once you have your phone now then bought lets say bmw i3, you would have the feeling "if its fits" by both.. if not, then you can return the car and buy another model which is second to your list.

I am still in love with my 2011 Ford Edge Sport after nearly 5 years. The passport actually surprised me with a few new features MFT has as well as a welcome msg every time I start the car "Welcome to your Ford" followed by a summery of my day.

When I bought my new MB this past Dec my only concern was Bluetooth and tethering integration. I'm happy to say that it delivered everything I could ask for including running MB Apps, Send To Car and Google street view on my car's display. I can send POIs from my desktop or mobile browser to car's nav which is perfect for planning day trips.

I already had the Car. I bought the Red Passport to complement my car.

and even the nav-system is running QNX, some old version, but I can use assistant and dictate my messages without touching my passport

Except the car is the suit. And you wouldn't buy a suit to match your shoes, unless you're a girl. However, there's another part of that. Both phone and shoes are selected based on activity. The suit just looks good.

Back then I didn't buy a new car for my phone, but I did modify it. In-car Touchstone wireless charging dock.

Dock is gone now but I kept the wiring for micro USB charging, shuts off with the car ignition. If only my Classic supported wireless charging I would totally put a dock there again.
