Last Friday, I finally received my long awaited and precious BlackBerry Passport. I eventually made an unboxing video for some Dutch people I was talking to on CB. I also shared the video on the ‘Passport Delivery Waiting room’, after which it spread through several websites. The reactions have been great, which is why I also want to share it with you guys. But since this is CrackBerry and my go-to place for everything BlackBerry related and I don’t have an own blog, I’ll share the whole backstory that the rest doesn’t know about.

There was a BlackBerry Experience event in London on the 2nd of June. It was a corporate event with a top secret prohibited for press NDA part about the upcoming Classic, Blend and BBM protect and of course the Passport. After the end of the event, the BlackBerry employees started pulling out this huge device. It was the BlackBerry Passport!

The place was crowded, there were at least 10 people surrounded around every device but I still manager to hold it in my hand. My first reaction was ‘meh, too big’, but the screen was like nothing I’d seen before and the keyboard felt weird as well. It didn’t give me that love at first sight feeling that the Classic gave me a few minutes before.

BUT.. As time passed and more details about the Passport started popping up, I started falling in love with the Passport. This was going to be a beast that would limitlessly stand by my side, getting me though day and night while I conquered the world!

I pre-ordered the Passport on launch day from a Dutch website and received it last Friday, October 3rd. The plan was to make an unboxing video at my friend’s place, but that got cancelled, so I decided to do it at home instead. My phone rang just before I was going to cut the seal, so I had to go with the Passport still boxed in my trunk. I was talking to my friend later and we came up with an idea, during which we documented the moment I had this device in my hand for the second time after exactly 4 months - 1 day!

EDIT: Oh by the way the only interesting thing in Dutch is; "I've already had it since 4pm, so almost for 5 hours and I haven't opened it yet, so I'm just gonna do it" and "I've already had this device in my hand, but now that I'm holding it again....". The rest are all things that you've already heard in other unboxing videos.

Hilarious that it was done at an Apple store! I'm surprised no one came by to stop it or kick you out! LOL cheers!

Some employees walked past in front of me a few times and they looked at us like "whut", but they just didn't care I guess. The manager of that store was my manager more than 10 years ago. I'd flip him the bird and just continue ;D

I can imagine! Can't use mine as daily driver though, don't have my nano sim yet. So I'm on my Z30 when I'm not on Wifi.
