I would like to know, how do you use your Passport in car, specially how to use dialer.
I make a lot of phone calls while driving and I found it very difficult to dial contacts while driving.

So, how are you using passport in the car? I must admit, that my Nexus 5 was much more car friendly.

You shouldn't be dialling and driving. Learn to use Assistant please for your safety and others.

OP, if you can't use the Assistant while driving, then you should pull off to the side of the road and place/make your call, before you resume driving. LIFE IS FOR THE LIVING, so arrive alive.

Using assistant is ok, if your native language is English. Mine is not and therefore assistant have big problems picking and dialing contact. Believe me, I tried that.

In all honesty I don't understand why some people refuse to understand that some people have to use there phone in the car. The voice assistant is not going to work even Google now is not on a level where you can rely on it it ends up dialing wrong people that causes problems and is more of a distraction then just dialing the number. As far as the pp I don't have one but played with one in store and that was the deciding factor for me to get the classic I could not handle the pp one handed. All I can say is good luck that beast is wide lol

One more thing to be clear: I didn't opened this topic to get lectures about safety, but to get possible solutions regarding the issue. So I would kindly ask you that you don't answers unless you have suggestions about dialing in car. Thanks.

Tell Assistant to dial 905 222 5050. Whatever number it is I'm sure Assistant can recognize numbers even with an accent.

I use my Plantronics Legend and BlackBerry Assistant. Even though the Legend has connection issues, coupled with Assistant, I rarely have to hold or even touch my Passport. Besides phone calls I've composed and sent text messages, listened to email and voice mail, and even asked for directions, all without picking up or looking at my phone.

OP - I drive a ton.........75k+ per year as sales rep

I have a Smoothtalker universal car kit mounted so that I can clearly see the road if I have to take a call or touch the screen. This car kit accommodates the Passport nicely, keeps it charged and provides the outside antenna for better reception. My car is a Chrysler Town and Country Minivan with all the Bluetooth connectivity, but I don't use that system due to the poor microphone at highway speed. Instead, I have a Plantronics Voyager Edge to communicate with the phone (works awesome, during calls no one will know you are on the road it's that clear)

The Passport is a great tool for communication while driving. It does take some time to get the hang of its features.

Phone calls - use the speed dial shortcuts to set up your most dialed numbers. Press and hold the button and you are good to go. You do have to be in the home screen for the speed dial keys to work!

Assistant - I use the assistant to make calls for me when the person is not on speed dial. One touch and that's all it takes.

BBM/Text/Email Etc REPLIES - I use the voice dictation feature. This is probably the best feature on the phone! It's deadly accurate and requires one long touch of the phone's "period" button. That can be found on the onscreen keyboard.

BBM/Text/Email NEW - I use the Assistant to create new emails etc. Assistant is great....reads the communication back to you etc etc.

The key to safety is to have a holder for your phone. You can't safely hold a phone, look at the screen, type and drive at the same time - that's insanity. You can, however, safely operate a Passport with the use of its hands-free features if the phone is mounted properly (think car audio system). There is no difference between operating the Passport and turning the radio up if done correctly. I don't browse the Internet or social media nor do I watch the Blacklist......strictly phone calls and voice dictation.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Here the PP connected seamlessly via Bluetooth to the car audio system. The call is routed to the speakers and there is a mic on the roof over the driver's seat. Is like a hands free kit but already integrated into the car.

Sorry but I will lecture... complete insanity to use this phone without assistance in the car... and very dangerous.

Well, I didn't say that I don't have bluetooth instalation in my car. I do. The problem that I have is, that it is hard to pickup contact and dial it.
On my nexus phone, there was smart dialer, wich helped me to dial desired contact by hitting coresponding numbers in dialer and auto predictions did the rest. On blackberry I am forced to use contacts tab in order to find and dial contact.
That is one of the rare things, that android have better solved.
And yes, it is convenient to make calls during 3 - 4 hours driving.

If you're using Assistant, and want to make a call, it *should* be able to understand "Call contactname." Shouldn't it? Or is the pronounciation of the names in your contacts that gets messed up with Assistant?

If you have paired your phone to the car, Assistant works like a charm. I have a 2015 Honda Accord V6 with Navi and Blackberry Assistant comes up as an entry in my Contact List allowing me to activate it by voice control.

Does your car have an infotainment system that integrates your phone via Bluetooth with onboard dialing functions? Mine downloads the phone contacts to the car automatically.

No need to use Assistant if your car has the feature built in.

What year and model car is it - perhaps someone here has the same car.

Otherwise you just need to learn the Bluetooth command language to dial a contact such as "Dial Joe Smith Mobile" preceded by a tap on your Bluetooth device if you have a sun visor clip on.

I wonder why in such a relatively new car. Could you pair other phones or Blackberry phones before? I know one can manually dial 999-555-1234 and it will activate Assistant.

use a phone car holder, set fav contact on your call section, then you can just use 1 finger to press call icon, then press for the fav contact without pick up the phone with 1 hand. Or I supposed we can set speed dial right ? never use it though

Haven't tried pairing before. I should try it with my iphone5 via Bluetooth. I just wanted my PP to play music over my stock car audio.

Another good thing with iphone5 was, I could connect it to my aftermarket headunit dac via usb cable. And SQ was super impressive.

Do you even need assistant? Does your Kia have its own built in commands?

My car fully integrates with the phone and I use the car's Comand (yes Comand - not a typo) system to perform all telephony functions.

Knesz - Don't be an ***** and try to dial a phone while driving. I personally don't care if you kill yourself, but people like you kill others when doing this. Pull off to the side of the road or use some sort of hands free voice activated solution.

And, yes, you need to be lectured.

Add a nickname for commonly misrecognized contacts that the assistant will understand when you say it.

I have a friend who the assistant always thinks is a series of numbers... gave him the nickname 'Simon' and can call him easily with the assistant.
