    Hi all,

I am just wondering if any of you Passport users have a different charger to power up your device?

Lately I have found my 3 + hour charging time with the standard 850 milamp charger a bit annoying.

I used an old Playbook charger I had, it's rated at 2 amps and reduced the charging time a lot but that charger broke recently.

Is there any harm in using another charger? If it reduces my Passports battery health than truthfully it isn't worth it but if it's ok, than I will look elsewhere.

    Thanks!

I have Nvidia Sheild tablet and it has a 2.1 amp charger I use on my Passport. Works great and charges fast. I use the original charger only at night when I go to bed.

I never had the chance to use original charger instead I use a desktop charger from Aukey (same thing like Anker) and it never failed to amaze me 1-2hr or less of full charging. Quick note Passport supports QC2.0 so does my Aukey charger.

At 2A or less, you should be fine. I think Shop BlackBerry were selling 2A chargers as a Passport accessory at one point.
Most importantly, do not use a cheap charger. You should be able to find another Playbook charger online very cheaply, or get a reputable brand of multi-device charger.

The best of the BlackBerry brand chargers is the one shipped with the Playbooks outside of North America. They take interchangeable plugs for various countries and the cord seems more durable than the small charger that came with the PlayBook in North America.

It is called the Premium Travel charger, sold for the phones prior to the Playbook and has a thicker two wire cord and an orange coloured USB tip to distinguish it from the identical lower amperage charger. I think it is 2.1amp or somewhere close to that.

Avoid cheap chargers off eBay or Amazon, even name brand. I had tried a few Nokia 2amp chargers and they caused problems with the touch screen going wild. I suspect it was cheap electronics, not properly filtered.

No. I've been using a 2 amp Playbook charger for 2 and 1/2 years and my battery is still excellent. All these devices, nowadays, have built-in protection against overcharging etc. Perfectly safe to use.

Not the charger with the protection but your phone or device. The Samsung charger is perfectly fine to use. Your Passport has the capability to prevent any problems with overcharging.

Exactly. As long as the charger voltage is fine that's what matters. Phone will control the actual amps that are sent to the battery so charger maximum rating not critical if it goes beyond the limit for the phone

If your Samsung is working fine, I wouldn't bother getting the BlackBerry unless you see it on sale cheap. I bought a few from a clearance bin in Staples for about $5 each.
