I thought I read that the passport supports usb3. Then I read somewhere that it's only with a special BlackBerry cable.

But I can't see any cable for sale or included in the package. Can someone verify or confirm?

Used my passport USB port with my USB 3 memory stick and adapter today and it worked like a charm.

The cables you picked on Amazon are just the couplers: They only join two normal sized USB cables together to make a longer one.

What we need is something that fits inside that Micro USB connector on the bottom of the Passport. That same connector is also a 'SlimPort' connection as well; It means that the connector has some special technology in it that BlackBerry might exploit to add functionality.

Currently it works well with USB3 connections with the supplied cables. It just doesn't seem to take advantage of USB3 speeds (it works with backward compatibility as a USB2 device).

I am quite disappointed that they have not released a supporting cable by now...or have they?

USB3 is a priority feature for me, I find it frustrating that we have a nickle holding up a dollar here.

They're probably waiting for the holster development team to finish their design work before releasing cables.

Just to bump this in case I have missed any new developments...

I understand that I won't get USB 3 speeds when writing to my SD card but will I get them for data transfers to the phone storage?

If so are there any cables yet that can do this?

What transfer speeds are you getting?

That is a USB 2 "On The Go" type adapter....

Not that it maters because all you probably are doing is accessing a flash drive, but here is the link to the USB 3

This evening I was doing some work and I just plugged the Passport into any first available USB port to back it up. It came up with this message (screenshot attached- WIN7, connected to a USB2 port) Seems as if the device really does know the difference between USB2 and USB3: (I was just using a high quality USB2 micro cable. Nothing special)

I don't understand how this still isn't released...

The Passport has been out since the beginning of Oct. It's already the end of January.
