I think as someone mentioned in an earlier reply, $50 - $150 difference between iphone 6 & iphone 6 plus will be a significant saving for enterprise customers who manage a fleet of phones. The savings will rack up, the more phones they purchase... just remember the RRP is for the general consumer and is likely to be even less for enterprise customers.

Chen has made it clear that the Passport is aimed at professional types and enterprise customers and not the general consumer, & as such pricing should be considered in this way too.

I am a small business. We have about 15 lines scattered throughout smartphones, dumb phones and internet devices. My Q10 cost me $200.00. I didn't realize it at the time but my new account rep told me that I could have even saved more than that when I bought it.

I can only imagine what big corporations have to pay.

From my experience most business contracts function like the firsthand set at full price and then additional handsets costs between $150-250 depending on the quantities being ordered.

Also in my eyes the competition for business smartphone is between Samsung Note 4 & the Blackberry Passport.

Of course, the average Joe does not know the difference but the guy who mentioned those stats does and left it out because Blackberry does not have it.
I didn't leave anything out. I did mention the SoC speeds and the number of cores, but not the architecture as that is completely irrelevant at this point. There is absolutely no performance gain by moving to 64-bit on a mobile device with 1GB of RAM.

The camera on the iPhone is definitely not the best found on a mobile device. The Nokia Lumia 1020, the LG G3, the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Samsung Galasy S5 all have better cameras.

I know specs are not everything, all I was saying is that going by components alone the Passport could be at least 30% more expensive than the iPhone.

    Regards,
    The guy

Please stop the inferior lies cuz other than more ram the Passport does not have anything better than the 6. When you buy a smartphone you not only buy the hardware but the services and apps that come with it(ecosystem) as well, and Blackberry does not have any. Yes $599 is too much for just the hardware.
I think you should stop with apple worshiping and BlackBerry bashing.

I think it is a fantastic price. For the folks expecting less (and the person that was expecting $399... LOL), just be happy that they didn't price it at $799 like a lot of us thought. And if $599 is too much for you, wait 6 months and the price will most likely be under $500.

Then you admit there is a problem with initial pricing? If you think that price wil soon go under $500 then initial price is too high.

    First off, *too

Second, many if not all smartphones except the iPhone will go down $100 or more after 6 months because they know it will help draw in those who have been sitting on the border of getting the device. The iPhone is one of few that stay full price until they're already obsolete. An initial price of $599 is $100 cheaper than the general market would ever share.

And to that guy that was bashing BlackBerry earlier about how the Passport only has more RAM than the iPhone, he clearly hasn't compared specs, and especially not the performance of the actual devices.

    Ok, thanks, I've fixed it...

Anyway, I'm just looking at this from another perspective. For me BlackBerry isn't anymore in position to sell for premium or near premium prices. I see BlackBerry as company that has to sell more for less, like Android newcomers Meizu, Oppo, One+

Nope. No pricing problem. As chalx stated already, very few phone companies can keep their prices static from day 1 to EOL. The general trend among anyone not named apple has been to grab the early adopters then lower the price 6-8 months after launch to grab remaining folks sitting on the sidelines. Heck, even Apple did do something like this with their trade in programs. But they technically never lowered the price of the 5s. And this also happens with subsidized carrier phones. Most flagships are usually $199 to start on a 2 year, then gradually fall to $0 after 1 year on the market.

Let's put this in dollars and sense perspective:

*These are made up numbers to make a point, not based on real numbers!*

Lets's say it take $100.00 to build one Passport
If they decide to sell them for $799.00 to compete with the likes of iphone or galaxy whatever and only sell 1,000,000 the profit is $699.00 x 1,000,000 = $699,000,000
Now if they go with the premise of lowering the price to get back into the fray of things and sell them at $599.00 and now they sell 2,000,000 then the profit is $499.00 x 2,000,000 = $998,000,000
The difference is $299,000,000 on the plus side
For arguments sake at the $499.00 profit price they would only have to sell 1.4 million devices to equal the $699.00 profit.

Sometimes you sell at a lower price to move more product and still make major profits. This is a move I wish a lot of companies would implore.

Disclaimer: I am not a marketing major or someone who has studied sales and all that number jazz stuff, but I am a consumer and sometimes if the price was lower I would definitely buy more of anything.

That's bs. Why would we have to pay $100 more when the dollar is virtually the same and the damn company is Canadian.

I really don't know if I'll be getting one if that's the case. $600 is already pushing it considering my Z10 is still great

When it becomes available, I will purchase the Passport. $599.00 is a Wow!!! I love my Z30 all touch device which I did not think I would. But the Passport gives me back my keyboard and a whole lot more.
I cant wait to see the bigger picture.

    GIVE ME BACK MY KEYBOARD.

I'm happy with the price! Now I just hope my company will support BES10 or 12 in production. Otherwise, I'll probably get one for personal use. It would be awesome, though if we upgrade BES and the Passport would replace my 9930. Then I would carry and use the Passport every day.

Doesn't the Canadian price include a sales tax? The U.S. price does not include tax. The actual price in most states will be more than $599.
