I have mixed feelings about this price point. As a consumer, I'm glad to hear about the lower than expected price. But, is it the right move for BBRY?

BlackBerry is taking a big gamble with the Passport. There's a good possibility that BlackBerry people, like myself, that were going to buy it at $599 would have also bought it $699. In this sense, BlackBerry has pissed away $100 on every single Passport they sell.

The big question is, will a $100 price drop get current BlackBerry owners to upgrade sooner, will big business buy more units than they would at $699, and more importantly, will it actually convince Android and iOS users to give it a try?

How will this affect on contract prices? Are we likely to see the Passport start at $99 on two years? If so, holy **** give this phone right now!!! I suspect that with a lower starting price, it will be longer before we see the inevitable $50-$100 on-contract price drop.
If it starts around $99 on a 2 year commitment, it will be fantastic. The iPhone is way more than that.

I think the price is right. What is the use of charging $100 more just because some people would pay that price when you have to lower the price just months later if sales are not good. With $599 even the Apple fanboy media has to admitt that this is a good price for a great device and that would improve the perception of Blackberry and that is something that is worth more than some additional profits from a higher sales price.

I must admit it is an awesome price! $649 would have been my ceiling and I would not purchase it if it were $699. Brutally honest, however it is what it is. I will be getting mine as soon as it's available on VZW

The Crackberry article says "Chen said today the phone will be available "immediately" on that date in some stores and in one to two weeks, he said, "a lot of places will have it"

Does that mean carrier stores or stores like bestbuy, radio shack, etc.,?

In the US sales tax is almost always added at checkout. Though there are some areas where I believe there is no sales tax.

It's a right price for BlackBerry users and loyalists. For people who was buying BlackBerry phones for years for insanely prices. It's not a right price if you consider BlackBerry market position and its struggle to gain some substantial market share. With $599 they are to close to competition top of the line models. Heck, if I have $599 ready to spent on the phone, I'll go with iPhone 6, and I've tried BB10 and I even like it. I like it a lot.
I honestly cannot imagine anyone with cash in their hands going into store and saying: "look this new strange looking BlackBerry, how affordable it is for a price of $600. Lets give it a chance and even save whole $50". IMO, if they can't launch phone for $399, its better not to try at all.

So you are comparing the price for an iphone6 with much lower specifications with the Passport price. And even thought the iphone is still 50$ more expensive you still think the inferior iphone6 model is a better buy than the Passport? Interesting, but I think that is the fundament of Apple's success: people buying inferior stuff for superior prices without even considering other options since it is a product from Apple. Every Guru looks like a dumb fool next to Apple.

I'm not sure that I agree with you on $399. I do feel that they could have gone more competitive than this, but it does appear that some pricing analysis took place in the back rooms so I'm hoping they got it right. I would have liked to see it closer to the $500 mark personally ti really differentiate the price from the competition. I do agree that $599 does not go far enough probably in separating it from a $649 iPhone.
