for the keypad to have bright letters and be dimmer in the center. From the R to the u and from f to the j are not as bright as the rest of the letters.

My silver passport has brighter lighting on the outside and dimmer in the middle. So does my just arrived black one, but the difference isn't as much.

I guess that the lighting is located on the outside and the width of the phone results in a dimmer middle.

Mine also has the same effect. The more you go towards the middle, the less the buttons are lightened.

Ya mine does that a bit to! Since the large spacebar isnt lit up I though that may cauz the middle to look a bit dimmer since theres a big dark spot to begin with!! Who knows! Just a thought!

There are a few leds underneath, 5 or 6 of them on the legacy BlackBerry, and I guess about similar number on the Passport. So surely the lighting is not even and depends on the led locations.
But if you could barely see the middle keys, it's an obvious problem.

Have you tested the proximity and light sensors in BBVE? Could be the cause.
