Have you tried turning it to 'landscape' and type with your thumb on the keyboard sideway?

    Zoom Zoom Z30
Yes... it's a bit of a mind puzzle looking at a keyboard sideways... biggest issue is it tries to scroll and you don't get the extra row of keys on the screen.

It is possible but difficult. I suppose if you've really big hands or at least a long thumb you could do it easier

The average palm size widths for male respective female is 84 mm (3.30 in) and 74 mm (2.91 in).
( source: Average Hand Size - Your resource for Hand Size, Palm Size and Finger Length Averages )

Lets assume someone whos hand that is 74 mm wide (2.91 in) can handle a Z10 one handed. Z10 is 65.6 mm (2.58 in) wide. So that hand is 12.8 % wider than the Z10 device.

The passport is 90.3 mm (3.56 in) wide. To translate the above it would require a hand that is 102 mm (4 in) wide. Ive read that a individuals length is about 9 times the length of the hand. Meaning this individual probably is just above 2 meters (6 feet) tall.

Anyone with 74 mm wide hands that can handle a Z10 one handed? Or may calculus fails for just that reason. May be other errors as well :-)
I don't hold my phone in my Palm.. I hold it with the bottom center of the phone resting on the middle of my pinkie finger, with my other 3 fingers supporting the phone.

If anything, the measurement should be based on pinkie finger or thumb length.

I have been able to type one handed. Obviously not as easily as on the Q10, but in a pinch I can scramble out a text or BBM no problem one handed.

I have no problem typing one handed on the Z30, so I'm looking forward trying it on the Passport.

It's technically possible to type one handed. I've done it a couple of times on mine - though, you struggle when you're trying to reach the QWASZX keys. So really, you should look for a different advice if you want easier typing one handed.

Typing one handed works for me on the passport. It's obviously not as quick and I have to look at the keys. Two handed I can type without looking at the keyboard unless I need a symbol or number.

I naturally just started typing one handed on passport without giving it much thought. The word prediction helps. So I can say it is possible. I'm 5'10" but i do have large hands.

I'm going to break the back of one-handed typing on the Passport... I'm trying whenever it makes sense... but here's a little anecdote.

Waiting in line at the checkout at the grocery store, with my items under one arm, typing on my Passport with the other, my hand too low on the device, gravity started doing it's thang and the top of the device was tipping out of my hand... I have EXCELLENT reflexes for an old man and I was able to recover... but in the process of attempting to catch it, I batted it upwards and had to grab it out of mid air to prevent it from testing its durability on a rigid grocery store floor... not unlike the feeling I experienced when I was driving on the Gardiner Expressway about 10 years ago, saw the sign that said "be prepared to stop", so I checked my rearview mirror to see how close drivers were behind me and when I looked ahead there was a WALL of cars not moving: I swerved onto the shoulder and there was a car parked there so I swerved THROUGH the gap in two lanes of traffic and DIDN'T CRASH. But that moment is burned into my memory for all time, and I still get the willies thinking about it.

Ok, it's not the same, but mark my words: if you try to type on your Passport one handed, you WILL drop your phone eventually!!!! (wagging bony finger at you, wearing an eyepatch, walking stooped over... it's a good look, no?)

For reading and just browsing it isnt bad.
