Does passport support this? Meaning, instead of having to go to Phone or Universal Search, I can just type the phone number from anywhere, or at least from the home screen, and the it starts dialing.
Thanks.

No you can't. You still need to get to the Phone app.
Unless you will assign a particular key as shortcut for a contact.
Or if you want, make a short cut to get to the Phone app. That's just one key to press before dialing the number.

Lame. So I can't swipe down on the keyboard from the home screen to bring up the virtual keys of numbers?

Sorry, still no. You have to be in an app to be able to bring out the virtual number keyboard.

You can type "call +number" and it works without phone app
But of course through universal search

You can long press P to open the phone app. Then the keys qwersdfxcv will work like 0 to 9. Quite convenient if you get used to it.
You need 10.3.1 for P to work.
You could also just type a name right? Blackberry assist will hel you from there.

Check out Keyboard Shortcuts for 10.3.1.
You can assign a key shortcut to open speed dials and more. No need to type or search the contacts db.

I want to be able to type the a phone number and save it. Just being able to type it from the home screen and save it or call or text sounds really good. Is there anything just like it?
Things like things are what make it so hard to decide between either a passport or classic.
