BlackBerry maps is a licensed version from Tom Tom so even though the application Is the same some of the features of Tom Tom don't work on BlackBerry maps unfortunately.

It works quite well actually. Once the app opens, you just start typing on the Passport's physical keyboard for whatever place or address you're looking for. Or you can scroll thru your contacts' addresses or your recent searches by just swiping up or down across the physical keys. Really cool.

Didn't we hear that BlackBerry was going to use a new Maps provider some time back? It was said that is was on par or better then Google maps.
Anybody remember that?
I love BlackBerry maps. Always works so well here in Midwest US.

So... you paid for, downloaded and installed TomTom Navigator for Android and it ran well? Are you referring to the paid app or the built in BlackBerry map application that uses TomTom maps? I believe the op is referring to the paid version.

All I have to say is my Blackberry Maps works better and more accurate then my Nissan Navigation and Google Maps on the Nexus.
Agree here also. We were on a business trip and it outperformed the apple maps also. Much better routes and simple format to follow. It even pulls up more restaurants.

Works for me!

Tom Tom or maps?
I use Mireo. Flawless!

TomTom Navigator for Android doesn't work on BlackBerry. It installs ok but won't run because it complains of there being no network connection and then exits.
To those saying BlackBerry Maps is as good, it isn't, it can't store maps on the device so needs a data connection to navigate and search, it doesn't have extra like speed camera warnings or POI imports, it doesn't have a wide choice of voices.
Nav4free has an awful UI and it's routing is hopeless.
Mireo is the best for offline maps, although the lack of HD traffic in the UK is annoying.
My issue with BlackBerry Maps is how awful the search function is. I'll use it if I know the address or I'm going to one of my contacts' places. Otherwise, I have given up searching on BlackBerry Maps and I use Waze.

Absolutely not.
BlackBerry Maps is developed by TCS.
Nuance provides the text to speech technology.
I can only guess Infogroup delivers POI info or something similar.
It might be based on map data and/or live traffic info from TomTom but it's inferior in a lot of ways:
- searching
- POI
- User interface responsiveness.
- Turn-by-turn navigation and live traffic not available in many countries.
Building a complete mapping solution is not easy. TCS had built for other customers (probably OEM solutions) for years and BlackBerry paid them to have a mapping solution for BlackBerry 10.
See About in the app for details.

waze app,The best gps I have ever used, Works great on passport,
I agree, I used BlackBerry maps a few years ago on a trip and literally got lost in montana due to no signal, although the routing on mireo is not the best it will get you to your destination, I tested this over the weekend and my route saved me 24 miles and a half hour of drive time vs. the tomtom /mireo route
