curious if anyone knows why, before the wipe, the reload via link produced a boot loop & nothing more...??

Sometimes the bootloader doesn't "catch" on the first try when you reboot your device. One time when I was reloading it took me 3 tries to get Link to recognize the phone. It maybe just is a matter of incorrect timing.

If the device is working fine, why do you need to fix?

Yes you can cherry pick what you want to reload. But as for the apps, most of them I would just download from BlackBerry world or Amazon.
Both BlackBerry world and Amazon has a list of your downloaded apps. That way you'll get a fresh app without a lot of cached info being restored to the phone.

Let us know if you need assistance in cherry picking from the backup using Link. One of us can walk you they the steps.

After a horrible experience, I have the desired result. First, reload via link gave me continuous boot loop. I did a security wipe which took 4h to 95% and then all night to 97%... at lunch there was no further progress, so I did an up/down reboot & got an error 1500. I plugged in & did a reload which went fine, but the restore of the full backup died half way... rebooted & used ultimate backup to do that job. After some more fiddling for several hours, I have it ALL back, no thanks to BlackBerry's crummy restore routine. I will never get the hours of work back. I have attached the before & after to show the achieved space recovered. I pretty much have everything back as it was.

    The mess before:

    Right after OS restored native:

    Now with everything restored:

An aside: my previous phone was an HP Pre3 which has a routine they called "garbage collector" which, either automatically or on demand would rid the device of crapp. BlackBerry needs that...

Nice you got it done !
Wondering what apps were the "collectors" Seems that they inflated like crazy (reverted from 8.95GB to 2.26).
