I have just done a test a moment ago, after reading a thread regarding failure to wake passport the first time around. Thought I share it with you guys. Swiping above Q,W,O,P will not wake the passport. Swiping above E,R,T,Y will wake every single try. This is the bad news. Swiping above U,I will sometime not work. No wonder I have to swipe twice so often to wake the phone. Is it a bug or is it hardware? Do you guys experiencing The same. I will be fine if I am a lefty since swiping E,R will wake the first time round. My os is .2243

I've been trying to figure out why I have to double swipe 95% time.

At least now I know and can swipe the right area.

It's been this way with every OS I've had since November.

    Thanks OP.

This makes sense. The smaller the footprint that the phone must keep awake to wait for the swipe, the less battery it requires. So they choose the area that is most likely to be swiped and make this the area. Pretty clever engineering, if you ask me

Probably a combination of both. I think it's good to not listen to the screen input over QW and OP but I think they need to increase the sensitivity over UI.

Alrightie tried it and I think I may be on to something here !

when screen is locked and not lit, swiping over Q W and O P will not wake it but if you swipe over E R T Y U I keys unlocks the device for me.

Now for the funny bit, with the device locked and screen lit you can swipe from Q to P to unlock the device (screen has to be lit).

    Can anyone confirm

I can confirm, it is the same for my Passport.

Good to know we are all the same. I would prefer if I could wake somewhere above T,Y,U,I instead of E,R,T,Y since I am right handed.

I think the reason why blackberry is doing this is because the ui that blackberry is using is the same as their other phones which is slimmer. It would make sense that they will wake around E,R,T,Y area. Since passport is wider, and smaller number of user, we just need to give way to majority. Just my 2 cents

On the Z30 it will only work above the 'BlackBerry ' in the center. So where a "QW" and "IOP" Would be, does not work

Same results; not working on borders but swiping above U & I works all the time for me, on the red pp & 10.3.0 (don't judge me, I like stability).

I like it. They probably did it this way to filter out unintentional swipes to wake. Great find OP!
