Or will it be a waste now that BlackBerry might discontinue os 10

Get two. You could always sell them. Just because BB10 isn't continuing development doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Just get your GF a Passport. Who knows if she is still with you when BB10 dies. At least, at this moment, you can both enjoy BB10 devices. And I guess, at present, that's what matters most.

How long are you planning on waiting? There are forthcoming updates for BB10. The OS will one day reach obsolescence, but not anytime soon. The question isn't whether you should wait, the question is will the Passport SE meet your needs. If it does, get it. If you don't think it does, don't get it. Products are designed and built to fulfill a need, they're not prophets or indicators of future possibility.

This is said again and again, but here it is one more time: If you wait for the next best thing, you will always be waiting for the next best thing because there will always be a next best thing.

I recently picked up an iPad Air because as great as my Passport is, I need a large screen device for schematic viewing and annotation on the job as part of my service kit. With iPad Air 2 currently out and iPad Air 3 AND Pro coming out soon, I could wait for the next best thing. But my kit requires a tablet now, and the local Staples near my home was blowing out iPad Airs (The first iPad Air) BNIB for $400 on special. I picked up the last three units they had and got them to drop the price to $300 per unit, and these are the 32GB units. I could have waited for the new stuff which will be priced into the stratosphere when they come out, but the older Air units meet the need so why delay or break the bank on the new stuff.

Get what you need now, the future is unpredicable and not set in stone. What if the Priv launches and it's a total catastrophe. Massive amounts of defects, malfunctioning software, etc. What if the launch is absolutely successful and the Priv puts Blackberry back on the map with massive sales figures. Both are possibilities, but we don't know which one will be. What we do know...is now. So what do you need right now?

That's the real question you need to answer.

Got mine last week after quite a long hesitation. No regrets whatsoever:

    1) stunning, elegant design of the silver edition
    2) large screen - after a week of use, my Z10 just feels so tiny
    3) battery life
    4) nice to see BB10 run on a more powerful hw

The only downside is the attention you will grab

Thalakar, the old saying is true: if you snooze you lose. Everyone has given you good reasons to make the move. Now just do it! You will not be sorry. Your girlfriend will love you for it.

If BB10's days are indeed numbered, and you want to own this amazing little weird thing called the Passport so badly, I say go for it. You might only have this chance. Buy it and use it while it's still getting updates. By the time they drop support, you'll be ready to move on anyway.

I bought mine because I could not stand to NOT own one.

When you love it and you love the OS too, why hesitate?

BB10 would be most likely discontinued i.e. no new models would be released with it, but it is still maintained years after you'll done with your BB10 phones.

BB10 will receive at least some support again next year.
But as far as OS support is concerned, I wouldn't be too worried. For the past Android phones I owned from Motorola/LG/HTC, I think I only ever received one update each and I used those devices for about 2 years before switching to a new one.

I've received more updates from BlackBerry for my Z30 which I've had for just over a year than any of those previous Android devices.
