Does anyone have problems using Skype? Should I use the version from Blackberry World or Amazon Appstore?

I think both will work but they will probably, and I'm putting this rather bluntly, suck. Even the bbworld one is an android port so it has the usual android portish feel. Plus I think it consumes a decent amount of battery for some. Get people on BBM and use BBM voice instead.

I run Skype on my PP - and really wish there was a smoother port. The device gets hot and the battery drains fast. Not infrequently I cannot close the app and need to undertake a hard reset

Mine was pretty well. Did a video call through it and the video looked great (both ways).

My experience with Skype (from SNAP, BBW, and Amazon) has been poor on every BB10 phone I've owned (Z10, Q10 and Passport). It's so bad I've deleted it, and only use my Surface, Kindle Fire, laptop, or desktop.

I share the same view. I use skype a lot and ux is poor in BlackBerry devices.
For that particular use, my former Nokia N9 was just perfect! What a wonderful integration between Skype and device. Very missed!

Thank you all for your comments.

I had problems after restoring my device. So uninstalling and reinstalling fixed some of the problems I had.

That said, I really am starting to miss WindowsPhone. Skype (and many other aspects for that matter) worked so well on that platform IMHO...

Skype on BlackBerry passport is a disaster, it doesn't seems to be a native app. It overheats the phone, drains the battery plus you can not turn off the contacts from your contact list

Just change it in settings to not sync contacts. In my experience, it heats up a little, but it heats up on my dad's nexus too when u do video call for a while. I really don't have too much to complain about it on bb10
