If you have to ask, don't buy... you will never be happy if you wait for a newer model of what's available now. Technology changes every 3-6 months. You could wait for a passport 2 to come out, but will you then ask and question should you wait for the passport 3 to come out? Get what I'm saying?

excl vat... yes... vat is 27% here in hungary, thats still 500+ eur, and i wouldnt trust a random gsm shop who got a passport from god knows where by grey import. trusted sources still sell it for 600+ eur here

Unless you are one of those who must buy a phone immediately after it is released, waiting a few months to buy it is not a bad idea anyway. There are several advantages: 1) some of the early manufacturing issues are sorted out, 2) you get to hear the reviews, and 3) the price has probably dropped. So, buying a Passport at this stage is not necessarily a bad idea, especially since it is not known if/when Passport 2 may be coming out!

You're going to be waiting a long time for the Passport2. Blackberry will not be embracing the Apple 1-yr product cycle as they do not cater to that market. Though they may still not realise this after idiocy of the viking years.

Passport 2 not until 2016. What I would do, is check out z30 and passport and decide.

There is deal on red flag deals 180 + tax for z30. Passport is still 500, if you are getting one phone passport cost increase is worth.

Otherwise very good deal on Z30. Especially if you are touch screen person,

I find it a bit strange that everybody talks about a BlackBerry xxxxx 2 for almost all devices. Yet there really hasn't been a model of any BlackBerry 10 devices to date where a version 2 has come out. Who is to say there will ever be a Passport 2. Maybe the just put out another Passport with the same form factor and upgraded specs. I guess that would be a Passport 2, but can it be that much better that the current Passport?

Pretty much like any upgraded device... To me iPhone and samsung galaxy upgrades are improved specs running an updated os... And with specs that will also support new features the software updates may offer if required...

It would be exactly the same with the passport if a new one came to market.....

This is actually not a good analogy. You KNOW there is a new Mustang coming out next year. Every year the big manufacturers put out a new car, so you know if you don't get the 2015, you can get a 2016.

However, phone models change from year-to-year. The only ones that seem to stay consistent in name and design are the iPhone line and the Samsung lines (Galaxy and Note). Other than that, manufacturers will either redesign the line (how many different designs has HTC's "One" line had within the 3 years it's been around? One X, One S, One SV, EVO 4G LTE, One M7, One M8, One M9, etc.).

Since BlackBerry hasn't announced a new Passport, but they *have* announced a roadmap for other phones this year, it's pretty unlikely we'll see another Passport for another year or two. So, get one now, don't wait.

You should get it now because the Passport is still current, and they probably won't have its successor out for another year.

I mean, they can't even get other *colors* of the Classic out, and the black one launched in December. So I think it's safe to say that a follow up version to the original Passport won't be out for a while (I consider the at&t version of the Passport to be the same generation as the original Passport).

Despite what all the grocery store tabloids say, that is most definitely not the Passport successor. It's the exact same specs, just in a slightly restyled (and IMHO, uglier, cheaper-looking) design. It's been clearly stated that it's just redesigned to appeal to a specific market, that's all.

For a device to be a successor, it has to have improvements over the predecessor - but there are none here.
