I can't select specific words/lines from SMS sent to me. I can only copy the whole message. Any tips? I have been doing this on my Z10 before (10.1) and on my q10 (10.2)

I just tried this. Double tap on the screen within the message. Move the sliders to select desired text. Long press on the message selects the whole thing.
