I realize there are some threads about this already but I think it is completely asinine how long a security wipe on a blackberry takes. I've inherited my bosses Passport because he got the silver edition and it has been going all day. It has been at 95% for HOURS!!!?? There is no way data rakes that long to be erased. Completely ridiculous....but I still love it. So bada$$

Always better to run an autoloader first. Then a security wipe takes no more than 10 minutes.

Download the most recent autoloader from Thurask's archive here:

Download to PC. Unzip. Plug in phone. Run. You will now have a clean install of the most recent OS.

I see that there are 3 files, which do I download? I have the STA100-6 and should I do a backup first?

That's annoying, indeed! Is your boss using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server? And how did you doing a security swipe? Through the phone settings or by using the desktop software: BlackBerry Link? Yes, there are more ways.

You only need the largest of the three files. An autoloader wipes your device.

Although you can do a backup and restore with Link, consider a clean install. Alternatively, use a third party app like Ultimate Backup (to backup your contacts, messages, media, and documents).

This for me has been the biggest gripe about BlackBerry. Who invents a wipe that ends up getting stuck 50% of the time. For me 2 out 4 times. Average BlackBerry user doesn't know what an autoloader is and BlackBerry link is no help since it will fail once you try and reload software.

Anyways back to what the OP is required to do is autoload. The only way I got the wipe process to stop, is to connect it via link and attempt to reload software. I simply cancel the reload since BlackBerry link won't be able to do it anyhow. Once that is done you will see that your passport will say that no software is loaded with an error code. Don't panic. This is when you perform the autoloader.

Shutting down the BlackBerry while wipe is performing will simply restart the wipe. My BlackBerry wasn't recognize by the autoloader software while wipe is going so the above solution was the only way to get out on my end and proceed.

    Good luck!
