i would have done same man. good job. i currently help out other blackberry 10 users in my university. most of them are on 10.2 and have never hear or seen 10.3.1 . i then take the opportunity to showcase my Q5 running the 10.3, run them through the new features and in no time, i'm either upgrading for them using Sachesi or the good old Autoloader.

You're the man, OP. And that is one lucky guy to have you in the store exactly at that time. He'll find out soon just how lucky he was. Hopefully he will convince more people and all the credit goes to you. Keep moving...

Just left a AT&T store in NYC and while I was there I saw a customer returning a Passport trying to decide between Android and Apple. I approached the individual and asked him why he was returning the phone while conspicuously placing my Red Passport on the table to intrigue him. He was in awe when he saw mine and asked to handle it for a bit which I gladly allowed. So he continued to tell me his reasons for returning the phone which were; flickering, and not liking to have to press the virtual number button to access numbers and symbols, he had it for a week or so and could not get used to it. I asked.. that's it? He clearly had no idea as to the power of the phone, so I began my walk-through with him I first explained to him that the flickering was a software issue and it was being addressed soon then I proceeded to show him the swipe down for the numbers and symbols keys and he was amazed, I continued with the Hub and color coding of accounts, reader mode in the browser etc. I was there with him for 40mins! I sold him when I told him the phone supported wireless charging and showed him how to use the phone as a drive as he mentioned he was a grad student and needed that ability but wasn't aware the Passport could do this. At this point he decided to keep it. He was very grateful and asked if he could have my email in case he had questions, of course I obliged. Glad I was able to make make a save.

I spoke to the rep and he had no idea the phones were capable of wireless charging. I also asked about sales and he said people have been picking them up, he added he sold 2 Passports and 3 Classics earlier today.

Amazing job. Our largest ATT corporate store here has the classic and passport in stock but not on display. The do have display units in the back to demo. The rep didn't know that either had wireless charging or that the keyboard could be used to scroll the screen........

The training these reps are receiving is terrible or do they just not care? I did find one store where a rep had a classic himself!

The one thing that amazed me was that the user bought a passport, and when he powered it up the screen starts flickering. Don't get me wrong, but how could Blackberry release a phone and allow that issue to slip through. Despite the fact the passport is an amazing phone, who would'nt return a phone after experiencing flicker.Would you not think the phone is crappy. If you bring the phone back because of this issue you can bet the sales rep will tell you , well you should of bought an Iphone, you know Blackberry sucks. Blackberry needs to address this issue ASAP, or lose sales for sure!

Seems to me that although AT&T are selling the Passport and Classic, it's the same old stuff, i.e. passport and classic hidden at the back of the store, sales reps pushing Samsungs and iPhones in your face. Kind of dissapointing to say the least.

Nice save, buddy. It's nice how you made him feel like he wasn't alone or doing something wrong by returning it, e.g. "android sucks! What are you doing? " you just zoned in on the issues they were having and let them make the decision themselves.

It's refreshing that he had already made the decision to try out the Passport which is a testament to the wow factor of the phone. I hope BlackBerry figures out a way to detach from the archaic dependence on carrier-based updates. BB10 has huge potential as a DIY platform for power users.
It's funny you mention that being alone thing, he said a couple of times while we were conversing that he never thought he would run into somebody else with a Passport nevertheless a red one. I also found it interesting that he picked the Passport as he also told me that was his first smartphone, prior to it he was off the grid for years and only had a dumbphone a few years back.

No, didn't get that far, judging by our discussion and what I had to show him I don't think he was ready for that.

Wouldnt it be cool if Blackberry gave a chance to Crackberry Members who could demonstrate the phones a couple days in the stores? Some advertising could be pointed at those days and then an expert shows up for the public. Now that sounds like some great marketing that cant fail to me.

I'd just like Blackberry to hold stores more accountable for knowledge on their devices. Most major retailers require mandatory online training when new products are delivered to their stores and require all employees to undergo and pass this training. Instead, blackberry is relying on the individual salesmen to educate themselves. Why would they? They can dump an iPhone or android device on anyone. I would bet money on the fact that 90% of blackberries at ATT are being sold to people asking for them, not because reps are actively promoting them.

That means assuming liability for their conduct and whatever they say or don't say (about the product's capability, or about competitors). If something goes wrong they'll be grilled as to why they didn't conduct criminal checks, drug tests, checked for legal status documents, etc.

BlackBerry is not entitled to expect such training. Rather it is BlackBerry's responsibility to invest in carrier relations and offer such training... just like all other successful hardware manufacturers.

Not to derail here but is there a way to do the swipe down on the keyboard where the numbers and symbols will stay until you do another swipe down? Its tedious to continue to swipe down every time you want to enter a number in and really slows down the typing process.
