I've done a few Rogers 4G vs LTE comparison speed tests using Speed Tester. Its probably just my location, inside a building etc as I'm getting about 2 bars on LTE and 5 bars on 4G but I'm getting almost exactly the same speed on LTE as I am on 4G.

Seems to me that given the much higher battery drain on LTE, I might as well just keep it on 4G and forget about 4G.

Does that seem reasonable or are some of you Rogers subscribers getting much, much better LTE speeds?

My passport does better in terms of speed on rogers LTE than on WIND 4G in Toronto.

Why would they have a separate option for each on Rogers if that is true? Does Telus not make that distinction in the Passport's settings?

I have been wondering what the best network setting is myself.

I have never had an LTE phone and I live in a smaller town in Alberta. I get 2 bars LTE reception at home and at work and full bars 4G reception at home and work, so I have had my phone set on 4g,3g,2g network settting.

I did one speedtest and the speeds were the same from my work for LTE and 4g so I was thinking that it was better to just leave my passport in 4g mode.

Is there any advantage for the LTE setting?

    I am also on Rogers

I thought there was only 2G (EDGE), 3G, HSPA/HSPA+ (sometimes inaccurately called 4G but more accurately 3.5G), and 4G (LTE). Could someone please clarify what the difference between "4G" and LTE is? Most of the comments here indicate that they are distinct, which defies my current understanding.

Why would Rogers have separate 4G and LTE settings then.

Rogers LTE is weak. I never use it because it's rarely full bars vs 4G/3G

Some of the speed test apps don't work properly on BB10 OS. They max out at about 5Mbps. They seem to be the ones that use the latest Ookla app. I noticed this about a year ago when I was testing my home wifi with my PlayBook. It seemed throttled at 5Mbps, but in the end it was the recent update to the Ookla app that was causing the problem.

It may be the app making it look like both LTE and 4G are similar speed. I have had readings of 70Mbps on Rogers LTE. I am on Eastlink now, but LTE is still probably ten times faster than 4G, in the 40Mbps range.

This is my Passport on wifi. It should get about 20Mbps, but the app is causing a problem.

After looking in the settings, I suspect that in the Network Connections settings, HSPA/HSPA+ is called '4G', while it displays 'H' or 'H+' in the notifications bar.

I'm still not sure under which circumstances and why HSPA(+) may be faster than LTE, or how mobile devices decide which one to use.
