Perhaps that's one reason why eBook formats does exist?

Most well made books are, when converted to html, split into many html files, with one index file.

So instead of blaming todays technology for not handling your 1989 way of doing things - perhaps put some blame where it belongs - to those who have chosen to make one big bag out of the book - instead of splitting it up properly, or to use other established eBook formats.

A quick google search will show the book available as ebook as well... and the Html file you linked, is from a Libre office document - so most likely some conversions has already been done - The file header show it is from a ".lit" format, which IS a ebook format - so the LibreOffice has imported from LIT and saved to it's own format - then converted to some sort of HTML...

when you keep converting documents to other formats, it's like trying to converting a lossy MP3 into another lossy format - the result will keep degrading and getting more terrible for each conversion.

Go and get yourself the original ebook version, Kindle if you find, and view it in a proper ebook viewer the way it was meant!

    Evolve - and move forward

Html may not be the optimal format for such much text. I exported it as a pdf from Safari and then it opened up in my Passport without problem. Not the best format though. Perhaps there's a better tool to give a better/prettier text. Another option would be to install Kindle from Amazon app store and get the book that way. I think there are free versions of it.

... as a test but it could have been anything that has the size of 11.3MB

    Not really.

As I mentioned, the file you used as "test", is converted by LibreOffice, from a eBook formatted .LIT file, into a HTML document.

If you look at the file, you will see that it does not follow any decent HTML standards for coding, No css files - nothing - it is all lots of terrible code on every line. Most likely this file would have been perhaps less than 200Kb in size if all the garbage was removed.

A similar thing happens if you use old MS Word - open / create a document - and try saving as HTML. Even many PC browsers have problems showing those "converted" files properly.

The browser in BB10 follows the standards, - so to make a test, use documents that is properly formatted and coded, Then do the test again - you will see a big difference

Windows Notepad can't open large text files correctly either. The issue is that word wrap must calculate all of the line break for the entire document before loading. This has nothing to do with the hardware; the app is just not optimized for that kind of work.

I still don't see the real need - Why use a html browser to read a book - when decent ebook readers specialized to do the job exist?

Who in their right mind create 10MB large html files ?

For larger amounts of data in a structured way, XML files were designed to allow for data exchance - and apps designed to read/write that format

Use the right tools for the job, and you will get the job done

Anyways it's cool guys feel free to say what you want.
My goal was just to show a limitation
Cool here too - it's just ... I really don't get why someone still try to move mountains with a Segway.

The Reader mode was implemented as a way to easier read through webpages - but not all. Many news sites, with ad's and stuff - or article based (like CrackBerry Forum), don't always show good.

about Ebook, I am sure that more specialized readers exist that would do a much better job displaying and browsing a book, than any regular internet browsers - or Reader modes ..

I don't even get why some users expect their phones to "do it all", from being the TV screen for the family, providing music and DJ'ing for the party, flashlight for hiking, camera for filming the Arctic expedition, Photoshop replacement, Autocad replacement ... oh - and a phone for calling and answering calls :-)

By using the proper tools for the job, you usually get things done more efficient and better.
