They will present it as a unique premium device for bosses. It will cost more than $1k
Can you shoot yourself more in the foot? This would be the worst possible decision ever. It would come of arrogant, elitist, and just completely out of touch with reality.

In reality of they price this device over $550 it will be a hard sell.

800 or more because BlackBerry, and dropping to a half in less that 5 months because it didn't sell, because they priced it wrong, again.

I bet it'd be more profitable than a $400 Passport. Most QWERTY users are price inelastic, there aren't too many, but those who are out there will pay for a high-end device. But, I'm not sure if you could get the masses who want an iPhone / Android standard form factor to buy this device no matter how low you price it. It is a niche device. BlackBerry fans who love their berries and will pay for them should be happy, but competing on price to gain marketshare will have to come with the Z50. A low price won't make QWERTY a substitute for an iPhone. Just not going to happen.

But, even niche and even premium, BlackBerry could sell 5 to 15 million of these if it hits among former and current BlackBerry users.

Keep your base happy... especially when many of them have cash to spare.

Based on the current published information about this device it is definitely a device for me. I even sold my Z30 because of it. I'm also a diehard Blackberry fan, but I am not a fool. I will definitely not pay an iPhone price for a Blackberry device. If they price the Passport too high they will definitely lose not just me, but others too. Blackberry had no resale value. It took me almost 3 months to flip my Z30 for less than I bought it for.

    If you have to ask you can't afford it. (;

Seriously though I expect the Passport to be about $300 on contract.

    Corporate types can afford it.

If they are targeting carriers, I expect $250 on a 2-year contract (which in Canada typically means $70 a month min). Outright probably a min of $699, but I expect $799. Either way not an outright purchase for me, as I won't spend $700 outright, nor will I lock in at $70 a month with one of the big three.

So yes, I want one but also I know that my expectations need to be lower at my price point. Maybe the classic will be less.

Not more than 600 USD so people will be interested to buy. So BlackBerry don't have to cut prices to 400 USD after 6 months. Cutting prices make people doubt to buy it at least that is how it is in Indonesia.

My suggestion would be to give early bird discount on the "actual" price rather than reducing the price after six months and being criticised just like the current trends with bb10 devices.
I would say around US$600 should be the actual price. I know it it might be very slim margin of getting profit out of it but i would rather have slightly profit than write it off completely. BlackBerry's first priority should be bringing more and more BB10 devices in people 's hand.

Right. I suppose I should have been clearer. I sold the Z30 because it never impressed me and I knew that new devices were on the horizon for the fall. Whatever Blackberry releases in the fall will be better than the Z30.

    Just saw that too!
From swedish site Confidence Business - Sveriges ledande Blackberry terfrsljare
    Q20 Classic 5499 SEK (806$ 594Euro)
    Passport 6499 SEK (952$ 702 Euro)

That's very expensive, but i am pretty sure they have the right price as business men can spend a 65 euro contract (as for example with Vodafone here in Italy) and for the others like me they'll have to make the sacrifice to spend what iSheeps usually spend for a new "revolutionary" iphone.
But i still think a 649 euro Passport and 499 euro Classic would be more appealing and clever...

BlackBerry is gearing up to launch two new QWERTY smartphones this year, the Passport and Classic. What price might we see for the next-generation in physical keyboard BlackBerry smartphones?

Swedish online retailer Confidence Business might have the answer. The company sells a multitude of mobile smartphones and accessories, including an array of BlackBerry devices.

Confidence Business currently has placeholders for the BlackBerry Passport and Classic. They list the Passport at 6,499 SEK, which is about $955 USD. The Classic priced at 5,499 SEK is about $806 USD.

Of course, this is likely the factory unlocked pricing and bit over priced. For example, they list the Porsche P’9982 at 23,995 SEK, which is over $3,500 USD. Madness, compared to ShopBlackBerry.com selling the P’9982 for $1,990 USD.

Nevertheless, we expect the Passport to at least retain a high-end price tag and follow in the footsteps of the Z30. What do you think will be the Passport and Classic pricing?
