    Did a quick ISO test.
    Using Camera++ manual Mode.
ISO 100, 400, 800, 1600 and shutter speed was increased to match from one picture to the other.
I cropped the pictures with Paint to show you the noise.
As I said, Passport handles digital noise quite well from 100 to 800.
Will probably do the same test with the Key2

if you can keep the ISO < 800 ISO
This reminds me of how we talked about Nikon DSLR sensors manufactured by SONY at the dawn of the D70 era. Still, a spectacular camera! Many complained how bad it is, others talked about the amount of noise is related to mastering your scene and the appropriateness of post-production touches.

I do not see much of the nasty chroma noise which is great!

Many sensors have problems with reds, a nice example here, native camera app:

Great photos! I'm impressed that you managed to get it in focus, considering the Passport's slow focusing ability. Did you even do it one-handed?

Thank you ! Slow focus but good lens quality and reduced focal length helps a lot in that situation

Yep, the key to good photos on the Passport is quite simply, patience. You need to hold that Passport perfectly still. I hold it with 2 hands and use the spacebar for taking the shot. I find that trying to use the built-in camera trigger button just encourages jiggling of the device but ymmv.

I still take macro shots, just having other commitments and have not checked on the forum to see what is happening to the thread about the "despised" BB Passport. Great to see the topic is still buzzing!

Here are recent shots. I used the rear lens element of a disassembled 50mm DSLR lens which had a significant mechanical issue. I just mounted this extra piece of glass on my hardshell case and not surprisingly, the results are satisfactory because a 50mm 1.8 lens is a normal prime and uses lens elements with high resolution (used this lens with macro extenders years ago and this was a viable substitute for a true macro lens). I can provide extra info on the subject photographed in case anyone is interested, all photographed in the garden.

Great macro shots, one of the other advantages of course is the small size of the sensor in macro shots, as it keeps much more of the subject in focus.

Using a full frame DSLR and true 1:1 macro lens usually results in a depth of field confined to a couple of millimetres or sometimes less and having to resort to focus stacking in post.

    Keep up the good work.

yes, I remember a conversation with the dev' (and I guess we still can find it here on crackberry) saying that the API only exposes a small range of the full shutter speed range. The lowest and higher values can only be triggered in auto-mode (with some tricks : you have more chances to trigger the 1s speed by using "night" mode, and the fastest by using "sports")

    Posted via CB10
Thanks, so what is the actual trick to trigger the 1 s? focus, hold the finger infront of and then move it? haha...it's not possible with camera++, which makes me doubt it -.-

I also think the low-light results of the Passport (& classic!) are amazing! I like them - to me they look much more closer to an actual camera than some newer smartphones with night modes...if using the manual mode of course

there is no way to change the aperture right? :P

    Great pictures !
You can easily trigger the 1s shutter speed using Camera++, using the semi-automatic mode (called "photo"), choosing ISO 100 and "Night Mode". If the environment is dark enough, you'll have chance to capture a 1s shot.

And if you want to trigger the 1s shutter speed in any situation (even in daylight) you can buy a neutral filter to put in front of the camera It works great !
