Nice pictures @YesAndNo ! Passport has definitley a good camera. I bought a used Huawei Mate 9 pro mobile two months ago with double Leica cams. It is good, but as a matter of fact the Passport cam is only beaten when it comes to zooming, but otherwise often equally good. I think it's a really good rating for the Passport camera.

Thanks mikael! The Passport certainly provides the point-and-shoot convenience I sometimes need, i.e. a reliable compact camera substitute.

Very impressive photos with the Passport. I never had a Passport but my BB10 Z30 phone camera did not come close to the photos you posted. My priv camera was was good. My Dtek 60 and Motion cameras were meh.

Thanks Bay 13. I do not have experience with the other models you have just mentioned. What I can confidently infer is that there is a very good balance between sensor quality and the software that controls the camera on the Passport.

Please have a look at the whole topic and you will find a more detailed answer to your question. For my pictures two apps are used, the native camera app and Camera++.

Not a stellar performer under low-light conditions.

Hello again Passporters, I have got an interesting addition to this topic for you today and hope you may find it useful. I will take the opportunity to invite participants here who take their time to post, provide feedback and exchange useful information in order to keep this worthwhile topic active to have a look at this post. I realise many people have not even had the time to fully explore the camera, so I hope this extra information would be of use to all participants here.

Contrary to the widespread and fortunately, abandoned assumption that ownership of sophisticated equipment (and a particular array of camera models and brands) determines the quality of the final result, I would like to share my sunset photographic output from the last few days.

My aim is not to demonstrate that the Passport is much more capable than other equipment, but to focus on the usability of the photos from the Passport relative to its creative capacity. I will leave any relevant comparisons with other phones to you as I do not currently know how other BB's perform in terms of their camera capabilities. Sometimes rear phone cameras of good phones that are expected to be of great quality (and many are) remain underrated due to their infrequent use or because we tend to use much more the front camera for communication. Another reason could be the presence of extremely high performance expectations that could be more appropriate for mirrorless or SLR systems.

I realise many of you may apply slight bias when outlining their impressions on the camera of the Passport due to the irrefutable appreciation of the device being a stellar performer in regard to its overall functionality and conveniences. On the other hand, there are users who may not be aware of the good aspects of the camera and have not felt the camera was adequate enough. The incredibly high colour accuracy in representing the multitude of colours you see here is a great asset and indeed surprised me. This comes to prove this device can function as a helpful compact camera that can handle beautiful scenes quite well.

We may speculate that this topic goes far beyond the simplicity of confirming the camera is good and points towards the aesthetical dimension of photography. In my opinion, we cannot just disregard the tool we use in order to achieve something really good because it is the fundamental hardware bit that brings art to us. Having said that, I would like to demonstrate how the Passport delivers good results under low light. As the topic has already seen so many macro photographs, this post is a bit different and addresses a more casual photographic aspect of the Passport's camera.

What I would also like to draw your attention to is what we have installed for immediate use, i.e. the native camera app used here. As @mikael11 previously mentioned in another topic, the built-in camera app uses center-weighted metering. This makes it easier to shoot landscapes. Many people who love their Passports are not happy with the AF system. It certainly has its flaws. Flash performs badly if not operated at more than 50cm from the subject. However, using it as a fill flash under daylight conditions leads to quite acceptable results. I discovered that re-focusing the landscape in different areas of the scene returned differences in white balance accuracy. This is how I managed to create WB duplicates of the same scene with a different WB setting. I am also quite satisfied with noise levels and the absence of unpleasant chroma noise that come from the native app, i.e. you get a phone already loaded with a good hardware and also very good software to make use of the sensor and optics in the best way possible.

WB closer to the actual scene:

    Warmer version:

    The power of Passport's camera!-img_20200109_171328.jpg

Another major observation I was keen to share with you is the accuracy of colour reproduction and the fact that even there could be WB shifts going far beyond 6000K for this scene, they still look natural and usable.

    A note on HDR use:
HDR is not the panacea that can turn any scene into a beautiful shot. It requires lots of care when we decide to use it. If you simply want to have unnatural landscapes to emphasise shadows where there is insufficient data, you won't achieve anything better, just the opposite. The HDR and non-HDR example come to show that HDR is meant to enhance, not to conceal an exposure error. To sum up, make sure you've got something to HDR, not something that you think might look better if in HDR.

    Regular shot:

    HDR version:

    The power of Passport's camera!-img_20200109_172008_hdr.jpg

There is also slight loss of saturation in HDR mode as you may expect (photo still usable):

Last but not least, it is worth pointing out that when the AE system encounters the brightest area in a landscape the camera does not tend to produce significant colour inaccuracies if the metering reference point is the brightest area. This is how the native camera app behaves.

Just meter where it makes sense to meter.
