I didn't realize people had issues with holding the shutter button to focus... it's like a regular camera, you hold the button down to focus, unless you have an DSLR.

That's why it's always good never to take anything for granted in life. Things that may seem ordinary to one person may indeed be complex to another.

Holding the shutter button down locks the focus, not necessarily to our choice. I would rather tap my chosen area of desired focus.

Can someone remind me if there are differences in exposure between using the on screen shutter, the space bar or the volume rockers? If I remember correctly the up and down buttons had a longer exposure time to take in more light for better shots, but I could be wrong.

In Camera++ you can use auto focusing instead of continuous auto. in that case camera will focus only when you tap on screen

I only see a CONTINUOUS setting for video and not for stills. Regardless, I never had any issues until recently with 10.3.2.2226. Holding the shutter button on my Passport never attains focus (green). Releasing the shutter takes the picture (but not focused), THEN the green box appears AFTER the picture is taken!

Great find but as some one else mentioned, the BlackBerry help guides and tutorials should emphasize this more so that customers aren't frustrated.

None of the above methods worked for me but I have an alternative solution that works on my Passport about 90% of the time:

    1- Turn the camera on.
2- Block the camera lens with your finger completely for 3-4 seconds and remove your finger.
3- Aim at an object (preferably well-lit) 3 m or so away from you and wait for the camera to focus.
4- It should start focusing from now on.
5- If the camera does not focus, turn the camera off and go to step 1.

After I was so frustrated with this problem, I found this fix by chance but as I said, it doesn't always work
