Has anyone tried the new Voice over LTE (volte) for Verizon?

When looking a Passport specs and VoLTE it should work, has anyone tried this?

No. You cannot get the Passport on the Verizon network because of the CDMA barrier. Since the phone is unavailable for use, voLTE is unavailable.

Isn't the point of their transition to VoLTE to move on from outdated CDMA?

Yes. But they won't go all in on it until they have nationwide deployment. And by 'all in' I mean accepting LTE-only phones. They do have plans for LTE-only phones, but have pushed the deadline twice: from EOY 2014 to H1 2016 to EOY 2016.

Plus, the Passport faces an additional barrier: it is not a phone they sell. So even if Verizon decides to accept LTE-only phones tomorrow, you would also need them to make it BYOD. Verizon is not a carrier known for its BYOD policies.
